Yeah, that contract is (frank)ing terrible.
Love Seabrook, and would take him on the team this moment, but that contract is not going to end well... - lumlums
Even after a milion retained its still gross.
Let chiarelli or benning trade for that one |

He is on a top team
I guess it all depends on who he fits with best.. Rielly is easliy a top 30D in the league tho.. and theres 60 top pair spots available.. - Arctic_AARDVARK
I don't think there are 30 #1 dmen in the league even though technically there obviously are 30 guys getting #1 minutes. Different definitions. I'm talking if the Leafs were to be cup contenders I think Rielly is ideally a #3 guy. Maybe #2 if he keeps getting better. |

He is pretty good but is he any better than Rielly? Imo no and Rielly is more of a 2nd pairing guy too. - daeth
Yes. On pace for 55 points, and good shot suppression.
Here's Rielly for comparison:
Now obviously these are just shot stats, but what it shows (combined with absolute G-A-P stats) is that while Shat is not as good at generating shots as Rielly, he generates better ones for him and his teammates than Rielly does, and is better at suppressing them (such that when he is on the ice more shots are towards the opposing goal - by a lot). Also, his most common partner is Gunnarson, and as we know, that means that he is likely pulling the weight in that partnership |

yeah.. he's all the rage right now...
what about Ellis from Nashville?? They've been making dumb trades.. Of course we'd ask for more than Ellis, but he could be a guy.. - Arctic_AARDVARK
I like Ellis for sure. Whether he'd be that top pair guy is up for debate, but he would certainly round out the top four. Rielly/Zait Gard/Ellis Nielsen(Dermott)/Carrick is a big improvement |

He's a #1..
Sure, if Doughty was on the team he'd the second best D on the team..
I don't look at D the same way as goalies, as theres a clear drop off after 8-10, so they'd be considered a legit starter. |

Alzner or Shatty is who I go after in FA.
If that fails move onto one of the d men available for trade.(expensive d men) |

I'd go around $6m for shatty.
More than $3m for seems like a lot. |

He's going to be 28 next year. I don't mind giving him term one bit.
But you are right about the money. The Leafs have to be careful there.
I think he wants to play in the east closer to home. Toronto would fit that bill however NYR more so. But they won't be able to afford him. |

gotta go back pretty far to find a team winning the cup with a #1 dman of rielly's ability.

I'm ok with that risk on term too.
I keep thinking the Rangers have the inside. Not impossible for them to move out money |

I'm just speaking about his current ability. As of now he's not what I'd consider a #1 guy if you're serious about winning a cup. He's young enough that he could improve a ton though. It's not a guarantee of course as some players peak early. |

I understand what you're saying. I just think you're under-rating him.. I think he's a top pairing guy now, so a 2D at worst.. and he's only getting better.. Even if we got Shats I think Rielly would surpass him eventually. |
