Guy got absolutely crushed by ferklund and came back to finish the game ...he's a warrior in my books ...tough as they come
- Redmile247

He will get his lumps for sure . I do expect him to reverse the tables one day by nailing Ferland back . I like Ferland btw

Agreed that Tree has been very impressive so far.
Although i think it's possible he develops skills further (shooting, puck rushing, even checking), i don't think something like meanness can be developed.
It just doesn't seem part of his makeup.
And that's just fine with me.
He can be our BFG.

- dbot

He may not be Pronger mean, but after the whistle he (literally) throws people away from the net that get too close to our goalie, he makes smart hits that don't put him out of position, and you can tell his hits hurt.

i don't equate strength/courage with meanness though.
I expect him to throw his weight around more and stand up for teammates and even fight on occasion...but i don't think he'll have the meanstreak that Pronger had, ie heaps of PIMs, stomping on ankles, being a nasty and borderline dirty player

- dbot

I think the meanness will come . Don't get me wrong I don't mean dirty meannes, I mean he will lose his temper quicker as he grows. Almost like a marriage. When you first meet on the best behavior. After a few years driving the dagger into each other.

There are only 2 defenseman that interest me in our projected area of selection in the 1st round. Foote.& Hague are both solid 2 way defenseman that can be top 2. Not interested in a defenseman that is only offense.(Liljegren)
Stecher & Hutton are stop gap measures (imo), so adding another top end prospect will give.us 4 in the system, not including any on current roster.(Juolevi,Brisebois & Neill).
With all the holes to fill in the cupboards I be thinking this draft will focus mostly on forwards & future drafts will get spread out amongst all positions, a goalie pick this year or next will not surprise me either.

- Reubenkincade

I think your wrong about Stetcher, kid is pretty good defensively and real good offensively. Hutton I think becomes a tradeable asset soon. I don't think Neil is anything special, didn't he fail to make the Comets this year? He maybe tops out as a 5/6(maybe) OJ and Brisbois both look good though.

Thinkin on the '82 Canucks run...

Who comes to mind that led the team?
Was it the collective character?
Brodeur?
Or what combination of the above?

Would it or can it apply to todays NHL?

- Nighthawk

Simpler times. Don't believe there is a team that was so berefit of talent that was able to do that again. Plus under dynasty times all teams were second thoughts when the best of the league talent was packed into one team. Cap era has seen to that never happening again.

No one is questioning his strength/toughness.

For a Russian to make the culture change is harder than any Euro.
English is not nearly so prevalent in Russia as in other Eropean nations.
Tree tooked a lil longer to get comfortable naturally.
Yes he has played a safer game to date & now explores more often to jump into the play. Thats prolly due to his smarts & mentoring & coaching to perfect his defensive play & not be a liability. Grooming him has gone nicely so far. Kid is only 22 & looks to be fittng great. He tops out as a top 4D maybe but a top 2D shutdown with a top 1D partner would be very possible. That is OJ whom we pin those hopes on.

except you get more than a 5 min major for hitting your partner.

Saw this the other day:

Punch someone in the face:
MLB 15 game suspension.
NFL 2 game suspension.
NBA 20 game suspension.
NHL 5 min penalty and do it again next period.

In MLB how many for running jump kicks or throwing a helmet at the pitcher or a bat at the runner or bean balls to the head? 1st MLB ignores PED's in the home run era McGwire Sosa Bonds et al to gain back its fans. Now they make poster boys of them. Now suspected or confirmed PEDS users get persecuted in the HoF voting. Such a hypocritical league. Thinking the NHL has strange quirks then MLB must take the cake 😂😂

If you could put big buff's mindset and size into a D man who is good at the position that would be pretty close

Are you saying Hutton and Stetcher are only stop gaps until Brisebois and Neill eventually take their place?
- Whiskey-Tango

1 may stick as our PP #6 defenseman. I was pointing those 3 out as another poster mentioned that we have lots of defenseman, I don't agree. 10 needed per season will be nice to have some good depth. Like what Anaheim is doing with Shea Theodore . Never enough defenseman.
As another poster mentioned earlier (Vantel), a high end defenseman gets moved. I agree as Tanev has a ntc that kicks in July 1, and Gudbranson can step into his spot whether some on here like him or not he can be the "nasty" on our backend.

Overheard on a Sabres thread...

This kid Troy Stecher might be worth looking into for Kane.

GP 37 G 1 A 12 Pts 13 PIMS 19 -4

Thats not bad for a kid just out of college.

"Highly skilled two-way defenceman that displays tremendous poise with and without the puck. Soft hands that can pass as well as let rockets fly. Excellent vision and a playmaker's knack for the game. Very aware and responsible defensively, but is not comfortable having the puck in his own end for too long and will take it upon himself to get the puck out of the defensive zone. His impact upon the game occurs at both ends of the ice as an offensive and defensive force.

- danwest58[EP]"

Thats from Elite Prospects.com.

If they also throw in someone like Cole Cassels who looks like a 3rd line center. You might have a deal If Van also soured on Jake Virtanen maybe he might be involved. He is not doing too well in the AHL right now so it is possible. You also have Brendan Gaunce who has 1 goal in 61 games. Also Jordan Subban that could be added.

Kane is proving on the ice he has value still and getting 2 blue chip NHL prospects even ones that will be a 3rd pairing defensemen with PP potential for a 2nd PP group, and a 3rd line 2 way center wouldnt be a stretch for a player that is top 2 line winger.

Stetcher has already proven he is better than a #6, gifted offensively and not a liability defensively. Like all young players he makes mistakes, but the consistency will come in his game. I think he tops out as a Barrie style #2/3, bottoms out as a #4/5 PMD.

I don't agree . Last year when he was challenged he was afraid .He was 21 . I think it was McLeod last year and Tree looked like a dear in headlights. Last night they collided again and Tryamkin did not back off or look afraid.

When Chara first came to the league he was not noted for fighting. He grew into it. I think after so many games a player gets tired of bumping and will stand up for himself.

I can see him in two years sticking up for his goalie or his D partner.

- VANTEL

Yes I see where you are at with this. In anything it's all about confidence. It ups compete level and abilities start showing up. He's got the tools. If he starts feeling it. He can do a lot.

Fill in the rest....

Trouba/Enstrom/Roslovic for Tanev/?/?
RHD for RHD
Roslovic for our future 2C

Domino effects...
Sbisa left unprotected or trade bait for pick/prospect expose Enstrom
Buyout Enstrom or flip him for almost anything
Then onto maybe Hansen also moved to fully prep for expansion.
Force Gaunce to be taken idk

Maybe a poor trade example for the domino effect to start but something similar is what i'm trying to explore
