Back in the good 'ole days you needed one during the playoffs.

If we ever make the playoffs/ have a chance of winning a round I'll make an alt. Could be a decade

Interesting NHL CS Mid Term Rankings out today. The top 14 players

8 Centers
4 Defence
2 Right Wing

It looks like it will be a C or D so far for us.

With how we r playing & projecting our draft position D seems to be the BPA available to us. So do we expect a trade? If yes then i expect a D moved. I know i've spitballed many ideas but ot makes sense to me. Tanev always comes to mind not cuz of his play & he is valuable to us but for the obvious that he would fetch the most IMO. If a package deal to get our man so be it. That would be a C hopefully but if a LW fine. Just using the usual rumoured players that is Duchesne Landeskog or Kane for the bigger names but maybe blue chip prospects r in play idk who though. Maybe even a domino effect occurs as in Hansen whom i'd hate to trade goes also as a lead up to the expansion draft. The bigger questions is what JB wants our core to be. He will either stay the course & risk us losing either Sbisa or Granlund or go full out. I don't see much of a middle ground but he has surprised us before.

Callan Foote. Could drop to our slot. Huge body. A touch under a ppg pace in the W this year. And his stats just keep getting better.

Not to mention he has a winners pedigree. I'd love that kid on our blue line.

- vancity787

He has the size & is a RHD so his stock will rise if he continues his good play.
For us to pick him something else would have to give 1st IMO

Pleased to see Liljegren plummeting down the rankings as I predicted (central scouting). I'd like Tippet as I know we don't have a shot at Nico or Patrick.

Tippet has really caught my eye also.
Too bad he has done the same for every other team.
Idk if he will available when we draft.

Seen him play a few times, draft position doesn't concern me as much now. We're still not a playoff team though.
- VanHockeyGuy

Now that is what is reality & simply put bro.
Its all about JB & his drafting skills that we hired for foremost.

I endorse the Nashville approach of ADD (always draft defense).

Trade for 1C's and wingers as needed with your bountiful stock of blue chip Dmen.

If D is BPA thats a very solid strategy in my books.
Never can have enough good D stockpiled.
Best trade chips to have 👍👍

I hearya but David Poile did it in Washington also.
Having Seth Jones fall to him got Johannson.
Stevie Y messed up there.

well when a team is in transition the bridge between Hope and Expectation can be shaky and unbuilt. Without surprises or big moves it's likely another battle for bubble obscurity will be in the cards for next season too.

I think people are getting excited because we haven't seen anything like him in Vancouver for years. He definitely has a huge upside and even though its only been 50 games he looks quite comfortable.

Not sure if you mean he's a top 4d now or if you think thats his ceiling? I wouldn't limit him to that - I think he could be 1 or 2 in the future easily.

As for the couple times he rushed the puck, he did it with his speed and strength - he created that space by himself. The more comfortable he becomes, the more we'll see him rush the puck. He's been playing safe to gain the confidence of the coaches and himself. I'd imagine WD is pumped that he's starting to rush and i doubt he'll be held back. Although I don't think he'll be rushing as much as Karlsson or Doughty. I understand you're trying to curb your enthusiasm but its ok to get a little excited once in awhile.

I am stoked on Tree.
I think the fact that he is playing so well has already exceeded expectations.
I just haven't seen enough to throw around #1D superstar rankings.

Maybe so but i recall Pareyko emerging in the playoffs for the Blues.
Going forward Tree will be most welcome in playoff runs.
The game gets tighter & we can push ppl around more so.

D are the best trading chip in 2016/2017. In 2019/2020 it very may well be left wingers. you can't build a team this way.

D are always at a premium, but I agree you can't build a team that way.

It also hurts if you have to really on Benning to make trades.

I get what you're saying, but...

I was kidding before, although i think it is more than just a trendy concept to build from the net out and defense wins championships.

Never heard the one about left wingers winning championships....

My point is some years goaltenders are in high demand and others it may be forwards or D. The trade market evolves yearly and loading up on D for 3 straight years would be incredibly short sighted.

I was being somewhat sarcastic when I mentioned LW to emphasis my point. Insert goaltender or scoring forward or center

edit. Nobody is saying don't build from the net out. I am saying Benning has done that already and you don't keep adding to your greatest organizational strength because that "may" be a good trade chip in 3 years. short sighted

Just having a laugh my bro.

Re playoffs, I couldn't say.
A possibility? sure, just like it's possible that Tree becomes a superstar #1 D.

I tend not to look too far in the future. Way too many factors and moving parts for me to make a guess like that with any confidence, with this current team.
