I prefer all-situations defenseman over a 1 dimensional defensive liability. Takes to many risks, causing lots of turnovers and others constantly have to work harder to cover the mistakes. If they are a bottom pairing 14 minute a game I can live with that.

When E Johnson is injured he has nobody left.
Forced into the spotlight on a poor D corps hides his true worth.
The comparison is faulty & more dependent upon who is the other top 3D.

EG is actually something they are looking for, i just think they want a LHD more than RHD unless Erik Johnson gets traded somewhere.

Actually someone on the flames thread asked what was the opinion on Brodie + for duchene ...not a fan of this ...but it's more realistic than guddy a grinder and a backup

I think the Avs are not parting with duchene unless it much better than those ...tanev involved helps but I just don't think the Canucks have the assets they are willing to part with to get him

In a bidding war we would lose out most likely.
The D going to the Av's would be who decides any trade.
Making some other cap space also in the package may clinch a deal.

Nope not at all. The truth is there is very little you like about anything Canucks. We argued all summer about who has the better team. You were convinced Flames were head and shoulders better and yet here we are 3 points behind with one game in hand.

I would personally trade Tanev over Guddy as he will get us a much higher return, and I think Guddy can show more than he has and will get better. Guddy in 2 years will be around Tanev level of shut down D I think. But with a harder shot, guy should get a shooting coach this off season.

The notion/argument that O.J 'does not possess much offensive ' is quite odd considering even his basic underlying numbers.

89 total OHL games, 70 points for a ppg of 0.79 overall.
He's currently on a 0.88 ppg this year alone, not to mention his memorial cup and WJC play.

oj strikes me as a d man that plays better with better players, he puts the puck on the tape so what happens after that isn't his fault, in junior there no where near as good as the nhl.

For all the reasons i like Tanev he simply has no offensive upside.
He is a top shutdown D & i'd shop him to gauge his worth.

i don't equate strength/courage with meanness though.
I expect him to throw his weight around more and stand up for teammates and even fight on occasion...but i don't think he'll have the meanstreak that Pronger had, ie heaps of PIMs, stomping on ankles, being a nasty and borderline dirty player
