I don't know what the hell is wrong with them, but they have been playing horrible lately. They don't muster much offensively, horrible in their own zone and Price is far from his usual self.

I don't know if it's because he almost missed a year of hockey, his knee injury reappearing or just fatigue, but he's not as sharp as we are used to see him.

To be honest I really expected a closer contest. I expected your forwards to crash the net but it just never came. I know Price did not have his best game but on a few he was screened and at least one the D man simply got beat bad.

Based on pedigree and position in the draft
Probably you've watched them a lot more than I did so I believe in you.

Gaunce played for Vancouver right?

- Barnaby36

Gaunce has decent pedigree. Was a 2nd round pick and an AHL all-star last year so he figured to be a guy in the call up mix.

Expectations might have been too high for Prow. He was undrafted and an overage senior. He's actually more than a year older than Pouliot. It was worth a shot signing him hoping he'd be like Sheary but it hasn't happened to this point as he's had trouble even grabbing a regular line up spot in the AHL.

Jakey!!! The kid is a point per game player in the NHL too. Keep him here.
- Dcoms

I hope he keeps it up. Could be a nice boost to the lineup. Kunitz on the 4th line suddenly makes them more of a threat as well especially since Wilson seems to have found his niche there.

4th line was great tonight. That's the most I've noticed Wilson in a while.

Taking Saad was far from a no-brainer, I know the reports came out that everyone wanted Saad but there were definitely question marks around him at the time which is why he fell from a projected lottery pick before the season started to 2nd round pick when the draft finally happened. It's easy to look back in hindsight and say it was a huge mistake(especially when others wanted Saad) but he was anything but a slamdunk pick at the time.l
- jaydogg1974

I'm of the mind that if a projected lotto pick falls to you when you have a low first or a second round pick due to intangible reasons, you always take the flyer on him for value sake. I was a big proponent of drafting Josh Ho-Sang.

I think Wilson has been playing well. Much better than the beginning of the year. Fehr had a nice game. I'm convinced he'd be a much better player for us if he were a full time center.

Nice complete game for the Pens tonight.

Is Derrick Pouliot's time in the NHL done/time with Pittsburgh done?

Rumor has it the Pens are tired of waiting for him and he doesn't work very hard.

He struggles in fast paced games and looks more "bust" than "prospect" these days.

He's cheap and waiver exempt so there's really no rush to send him packing, but I'm pretty sure the Pens wouldn't hesitate to move him. He doesn't seem like a "Sullivan" type player

With the Pens top D pairing injured (Dumo/Tanger), the bottom pairing has been a revolving door, none of which has seen the likes of Pouliot. Oleksy, Warsofsky, Ruhwedel, and Gaunce have all been given opportunities. I think the writing is on the wall in bold, all caps, 64 font.

I will be shocked if the number ever caps 34 in a Pens uniform.

He was labeled the all hailed "puck moving defenseman" early in his life. Couple that with a bad work ethic, attitude and a love of carbs and you basically have a POS. BUST!

I'll call it now.

Pens Habs conference final! we'll get them in 5 (heard it here first punters)!

Probably the best road game the Pens have played in a while.

I'll echo the sentiments of someone else when they were surprised Montreal didn't go after Murray's glove hand more (since that's essentially the book on him at this point).

Also, I'm not holding my breath for the Horny/Rust swap on lines anytime soon, but each game, I feel a little more sure it should happen.

Top 2 lines didn't look all that special tonight, but the 4th line was great at regaining some momentum every time the Habs started tilting the ice the other way.

Fehr looked pretty solid & comfortable being back in the lineup as a center. Wish he looked that good when he was on the wing. It would keep him in the lineup more regularly, but he's a pretty solid 5th center.

The wild card team in the Metro will be a serious threat to win that division. Right now it's the Rangers though it's not far from being us.

Agree on Fehr. DK just had an article on how he expected to be the 3rd line center when he signed here. He can play wing, but is a better center and with how we play fits much better in the middle where his lack of speed relative to much of the rest of the team isn't as big of a deal.

I think the Habs will go close even with a Metro WC. Tampa will probably be there as well once they find their feet again.

Did Galch & Gallahger play? They will make a difference (1 more than the other ), & the way the Atlantic is simmering, Tampa isn't far off a WC & even top 3 if they can string a few wins together. Plenty of time & Tampa 'should' get it together. Wasn't long ago the Caps were mentioned in making moves now they're ranked #1 top 16!

Didn't expect a win, but at least a closer game. Montreal had no jump tonight, and they missed so many opportunities by overplaying it. They were horrible in their own end and Price gave at least 2 softies.

I'm confident it will come back, but hopefully soon. They are in a favorable position right now but things can change rapidly.

Penguins seem as legit as last season. Last night was a clinic, and showed our management they still have a lot of work to do.

Gallagher is out until probably the end of February with a broken hand, Galchenyuk came back from a knee injury last Saturday, but isn't playing like he was before he got injured...probably just lost a few steps because of the time out and needs to just catch up. Hopefully they didn't brought him back too early.

DP's scouting analysis. Scroll down the to talent analysis. When you read it you think, is this a mistake? It can't be DP.

Obviously Saad wasn't drafted until 21 picks later. Though I will admit most drafts the guys drafted 20- early 2nd up to like 40 or so are basically flawed guys with similar potential. Its throwing darts and hoping on an 18 year old at that point and no slam dunks.

Will disagree to some point. The lottery projections are made on limited scouting of kids when they were 17. A lot can change both in kids development and when real scouting occurs as the draft approaches.

The NFL draft of 22 year olds who have played at a much more level competition level routinely sees top 10 picks fall into the 2nd or 3rd round. Though that is often from injury or character concerns.
