This year, yes. Look at the top. Price, Dubnyk, Johnson. All goalies playing extremely well
- sbroads24

no defense for lehner's play last night...and as for the would-be savior nilsson...how on earth can you not hug the post?

babcock, goes somewhere else
stamkos, goes somewhere else
vesey, goes somewhere else

aside from closing the deal with okposo, what has he done right?

Those were both really bad goals.

I surrender.

Cost me a nights sleep last night.

Frank frank frank.

Everything, except wasting a 3rd for exclusive rights to a player with 5 points since Dec. 1st.

Its nearly as bad as wasting a first overall on a guy who would go on a 13 game goal drought.

yeah and when Vesey got off to a strong start it would have been "he wasted a third for a star who wouldn't sign in buffalo"

Either way the "wasting a 3rd" is consistent.

it was a calculated risk with a pick that has about a 5% chance of making it to the nhl

Totally, except one player is 19 and on pace for 40+ goals/75+ points and the other is 23 and on pace for less than 40 points.

I remember a quote from Murray about Nylander on WGR. It showed me how old school he was.
Talked about riding the bus and how he needs to do it.
The whole notion that you have to pay your dues
to be in the NHL is completely outdated.

If Nylander is better than what the team has and can handle it, he needs to be here.

- ImThatGuy

Just for that, Murray's taking your car away and you'll be taking the bus from here on out.

Thomas Vanek, a player who reportedly wanted to play for the Sabres this season, leads the @nhl in even strength points per 60 minutes.

We could have probably got an asset or two back at the deadline for him

most people hated vanek here...couldn't wait 'til he was gone...now the sabres should have signed him?

I wonder if Matt Murray could be had for a reasonable price. Better than losing him in the expansion draft

You're right with the no good, but not simply because he played for us before. It was because he stunk on Long Island, in Montreal, and in Minnesota. It's not as if we were the only team to conclude Vanek was done.

He's having a nice year this year, but it comes as a surprise to many people, not only Buffalo.

Due to the expansion draft, it could be a more interesting trade deadline than in years past.

I think Broads point is that Vanek is the kind of low cost, 1 year deal, or 2 years if it takes 2, that the Sabres, and other teams, should be making to fill out their rosters every season instead of signing guys like Moulson to long term high dollar deals.

That way, even if the player does not pan out, the deal is nothing of a concern beyond the current season.

Correct me if I am wrong on that Broads.

it's so typical...run him out of town, watch him produce, lament that he's no longer with the team, get angry because he's not on the team...

wash, rinse, repeat

It was not all goaltending. One horrible goal was let in, but so did the Leafs.
