I'd say mess. Mediocrity would be 8-10 place, not 1 point out of last in the conference.
Lot of high priced players on this team
Lots of work to be done to make this team a consistent playoff contender, let alone cup contender.

Which IMO, if they were planning on contending in a year or two, it puts them on track to be mediocre.
I just don't see how feasible it is to get 3 very good D men in that span without gutting some of the forwards and creating more holes.
