Babcock went out of his way to temper playoff expectations for the leafs, under promise/over deliver

Murray and Bylsma failed this miserably. They set high expectations for a team that did little to improve areas of weakness, making a move now will only make things worse.

Get value at the deadline, re-evaluate end of season and make moves at the draft.

- Sabresfan-365

The bold above is exactly the right course to take along with Stash's mention of the expansion draft coming up.

So since the tank is on, who should we target? Nolan or Nico? James Patrick will put in a good word with his nephew right?
- CoHo_to_B-Lo

Patrick, Nico if Patrick is gone.

From the top on down Buffalo outclassed in last night's 4-3 loss at Toronto

- Michael Pachla

if you look at the other 29 teams in the nhl

how many of those teams are worse than the sabres top to bottom?

of those worse, how many at least have aspirations to be better than us withing the next 2 years (yotes come to mind)

they have one

gm keeps him in rochester

I remember a quote from Murray about Nylander on WGR. It showed me how old school he was.
Talked about riding the bus and how he needs to do it.
The whole notion that you have to pay your dues to be in the NHL is completely outdated.

If Nylander is better than what the team has and can handle it, he needs to be here.

At this point in the season I'm worried that Las Vegas is already ahead of us..

jack had 2 guys on him every time he touched the puck. Teams arean't afraid of Foligno and to a lesser extent Reinhart. Reinhart is ok, does some things well to very well, but he is not good at winning one on one battles. Foligno does his thing but it should be done on the bottom 6. They need to find him a LW.
- Khmylev

yeah, but when he sprung free, especially early in the second...was all alone in on Anderson and chose to pass to a covered reinhart...saw way too much of that from La core during their "heyday"

It was one game! If you thought a full rebuild would be done in 2 years and you'd be playoff bound in year 3 then expectations were too high.

Stay the course - draft often and draft smart and it's going to be a hell of a rivalry for years to come. I'll see all you (frank)ers at the KeyBank Center on March 25th

This. Timing was terrible. We wait one year to make any deals, we might be the ones with Matthews. That's just the truth.
- sbroads24

If by the truth you mean they could have had Matthews or any of the following: Laine, Dubois, Puljujarvi, Juolevi, or Tkachuk, I agree.

Edmonton and Toronto were both horrible last year at 70 points and 69 points respectively.

Is it possible they had 13 less points by doing none of the moves that were made? Sure.

It is not, however, the truth as an indication they would have landed Matthews with anything resembling certainty.

Also, I saw you mentioned Saad earlier.

What did Buffalo have that they would have been able to convince Chicago to take for Saad?

Keep in mind Chicago received the following for Saad:

Jeremy Morin, Marko Daňo, Artem Anisimov, Corey Tropp, 2016 4th round pick.

it's actually a bad subtitle, because the sabres weren't outclassed on the ice...goaltending was the major reason they lost last night, that and their core-like tendencies of passing an open shot while trying to feed a covered man, among other things
