Just saw a couple foxes (maybe coyotes?) run across the road while walking my dog

They were noticeably bigger than my beagle (who isn't very big, but it was like 50 feet down the road)

Given where you are it could be either, but if they were that big very likely it was coyotes. As long as it's a singleton or just 2 you should be fine. Obviously don't test it. But the old cliché they're more afraid of you than you are of them is true. Unless they're in a pack, that means they're hunting, then worry. But even suburban coyotes that are used to people are really skittish.
