Looks like the Blues aren't have a much better go of it against the Caps than the Hawks did. - breadbag
Boy is that team hot, heard them say the Caps 3rd and 4th line is leading the league in scoring, compared to other 3rd and 4th lines |

caps seem to score at will...you make a mistake and they punish you...what is that 7 of 8 with 4 plus goals
6 goals on 16 shots
blues are a bunch of slow plugs...other than #91 they aint got much..
i hope the caps lay a td + fg on them...if they dont get that tonight they just might vs the leaky stars next... |

I'd like to see the Hawks sign Bondra. He was playing well for Vancouver in the WHL before bring traded to Prince George where he's lighting it up (on a much better team). - DarthKane
Big body to get in front of the net, his +/- has improved too |

Some veteran LW options and their cap hits:
Vanek $2.6 million
Sharp $5.9 million
JVR $4.25 million through next season
Alexandre Burrows $4.5 million
Shane Doan $3,876,134 (not sure if he would go well as a LW but Capfriendly lists him as a RW/LW)
Viktor Stalberg $1,500,000 (I know, I know, relax)
Juri Hudler $2 million - MNHawk
I would swear he's still on the Hawks wearing #14...
Taking their cap hits into account, I'm not seeing any of these guys as clear upgrades with what we'd have to give up... |

At least Panik isn't afraid to be physical. Correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't recall Stahlberg being up to that much. If at all. |

Not really. Good for 40 points \ year playing on a top pairing for what was a playoff team. Typically carries play, the exception being this year, eats over 23 minutes a night. Taking more of the difficult zone starts. Certainly a much better player than TVR on either side of the ice. - fattybeef

Just to throw this out there...Friedman brought up Sharp as pure speculation as a possibility to play 1LW
For starters we know the chemistry is there. It wouldn't cost us much and Dallas owes us one for the giveaway to acquire him in the first place. It's also a no lose proposition for the hawks IMO. Imagine the fan fare if it happened. People would go nuts and if they lost in playoofs they wouldn't have given much up to bring back an old favorite and can preserve some of these young guys.
I know the guy is having a down year (some injuries in there too) but we know nothing would bring the best out in him like playing here again which in his mind is his home. Pretty sure he never sold his house here either... - hawks1921

Out of those I'd take Hudler. No contest.
Vanek has good numbers but he's useless in the playoffs. He'd be a healthy scratch at least once. He has great hands and offensive instincts but he's the definition of a coaster. It's always been his style.
Edit: Not that he's the best of the ones listed, but I think he'd be a good fit and he's cheap. JVR is too expensive and would be a bigger ask. Frankly I don't think the Hawks should be buying anything this season. You go big at the deadline to add a complimentary piece. We need a CORE piece to achieve. - kinigitt
Respectfully, and completely, disagree.
Vanek has been one of our Top 3 best defensive forwards all season long. The thing that I appreciate most is, when he makes a poor offensive decision, he skates back the hardest to diffuse the opponent's rush and/or play. He is more creative and smarter than most people will give him credit for. I honestly think his signing and play, aside from faceoffs, has completely replaced what Datsyuk provided. |
