Yes the Leafs traded away their pending UFA goalie Reimer at the TDL... Buffalo traded away any goalie that had a pulse.... just like this point, they overlook or simply won't state the obvious...

the players that the Sabres haven't or to this point at least aren't developing at the same rate... is that a club, coaching or simply a talent issue?

Hjalmersson is good, and an improvement over Hunlak of course, but he's not a top pairing guy. I would absolutely NOT move JvR for him...

and in Hjalmarsson's case... that's a pickup with a lot of mileage on it... heavy lifting for the Hawks for years... I don't think there's anything that says he has more than a few years of decent play left....

if JvR is the trade chip it better be a faster and younger player than Hjalmarsson.

He's a top 4 guy....

And JVR is by no means a top LW.... Sure he could be a top line player on half/most NHL teams... but hes not an elite LWer...

Contract and location wise it makes sense. You're going to have to overpay no matter what. If Chicago is calling Lou about JVR maybe they're willing to add a bit more.. I just think he's a perfect fit. A little younger would be nice.

that makes sense from a couple of perspectives - however IF Anaheim needs to make a move prior to the playoffs, if they feel they need more scoring at the expense of a defenseman they can replace from within... then it happens before the TDL... and in all likelihood the packages going either way would be larger.. .a multiple player deal.

The JVR for Hjalmarsson trade you've been pushing doesn't make a lot of sense to me from the Chicago perspective. The Hawks are always looking to shed salary, and those two players make very similar money. If they are trading Hjalmarsson wouldn't the best move be to obtain a player with team control, rather than a UFA in a year and a half?
