I think that the coverage of him has made many things overblown.
There seems to be sufficient evidence that he is both a narcissist and an idiot however. - lumlums
I don't believe that he is an idiot.
More importantly, I think that "the left" (of which I am a proud member) have done an absolutely horrible job of presenting an alternative vision to Trump supporters.
I think Anthony Bourdain put it pretty well:
http://news.nationalpost....ass-america-for-trump-win
When Meryl Streep stands up and calls anyone who likes football or MMA an idiot, well, that's not going to win a lot of votes in the heartland. The left needs to shut up, grow up, and figure out how to appeal to a large portion of the US electorate who feel they have been left behind.
Getting lectures from Hollywood millionaires about how stupid they are isn't going to do it.

good to know.. thats true for a lot of things now.. theres like a hundred animal species that we are forcing to mate and artificially inseminate because they wouldnt survive anymore.
We had this big beautiful planet with everything we would ever need to survive.. we've done a piss poor job of maintaining it.. dancing with the stars and Orville redenbacher is just to sweet of a deal to pretend to give a poop about it. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Over-population is the scourge of this planet. People that fight ALL genetic engineering don't realize that most of the world would die of starvation without it. |

Well, when you take the poor animals and put them in a zoo what do you expect? Poor Percy panda has self-esteem issues and performance anxiety like you wouldn't believe, and that's even before all these (frank)ers that are looking at him while he's trying to work his magic!!! - lumlums
If zoos put more effort into finding kinky animals to incarcerate, this wouldn't be a problem |

Mushrooms, man. If you want to be blown away by somethings evolution, complexity and genetic intelligence read up on fungi. (frank)ing mushrooms.
Those bastards can adapt to their environment, essentially evolving, in the manner that it would take humans thousands of years or more to do. (frank) lizards, mushrooms run the world. - markmark
this is true..
i saw this thing on green or yellow slime the other day... it thrives in cold dark places and has for hundreds of millions of years.. |

i have no issues with people cross breeding plants. Plants are crossbred to introduce traits/genes from one variety or line into a new genetic background. This is done without any gene level modifications introducing genes from an unrelated plant or animal into the genes of the target.
plant breeding was done with similar plants and varieties to get different traits together from the same kind of plant. - kaptaan
This is basically the premise behind GMOs, but taking the random chance out of everything. When people are starving and you want to create drought-resistant crops for instance, you really don't have as much time to Richard about with this as ol' Gary Gardener who is trying to grow the largest pumpkin at the county fair does... |

when they start making plants resistant to Roundup and other pesticides, then its a different story. that's not something that would have or even could have been done naturally. |

The context of this conversation is people making informed decisions on their food choices. I don't think people in these places you use as an example are trying to decide between organic and Kraft... |

yeah, but you have people from countries like that migrating here and then they become part of the consumer base making decisions and voting without any kind of equivalent to western education that values logic and rational thought including the scientific method. |

The left needs to demand what it wants, not accept a watered down centerist version of it ALA Hillary Clinton.. If Berny was the nominee i think he would have beat Trump. I wouldnt have voted for Hillary, its just more of the same.. But im a bit of a nihilist and i dont care if the world goes to poop, because we need to hit rock bottom before we rebuild. Kinda like a forest fire.. we need the nutrients to regrow.. Politics is an illusion.

I do - not for lack of intelligence, but more for the absolute certainty that he has in himself and his own opinion. There are definitely different types of intelligence, and I believe that there are different kinds of idiocy as well.
That said, Bourdain is spot on - the problem is that almost any person who is in a position to be running for government is going to appear aloof and isolated to people who are more worried about whether they can put food on their table this coming month, and who have much more to worry about than whatever cause is the new fad to represent. Trump capitalized on that, and won because of it. |
