There's an excellent book that I recommend for anybody called "Good Calories, bad calories: Fats, Carbs, and the Controversial Science of Diet and Health"

https://www.amazon.com/Go...ial-Science/dp/1400033462

It's a summation of years of peer reviewed science into how food affects our body (that is to say the hormal, chemical and biological changes that happen as a result of ingesting certain types of foods) and is written for the non-scientific audience. I'd suggest anybody with even the slightest desire to be more informed to have a read - most libraries should have it if you don't want to buy it.

Don't raise them on fast food!

My wife and I cut out all fast foods over 12 years ago, nada, nothing.

Everything is done at home, now the girl (10) helps with all dinner meals. There is no need for fast food and don't give me the BS that you have no time to cook or in a hurry, you can pre cook or pre plan every meal and when you have time, you can cook several meals, every one has a fridge and freezer compartment, no excuses.

- LeafMan

Everything in moderation.

Not a fan of fast food, but its funny how people think cooking at home is so healthy. Not realizing the crap that's on their vegetables, non stick pans etc.

Cooking at home is preferred, but eating fast food once in a blue moon is of no harm to kids.

Pop is absolutely the worst. 150-200 calories of refined sugar at a time, and that's just one serving. And people never just have one serving. I've known people who literally drink 750+ calories of this junk every day, and it's not just the calories that are the issue, it's the fact that it causes your blood sugar to spike so (frank)ing high from even a partial portion. I'd be willing to wager that if you examined the health history of a good three quarters of type-2 diabetics in North America, you'd find an excess of either pop, booze or both to be involved.

my comment doesnt make sense anyways

truth is, none of the stuff we eat looks like it does now 200 years ago.. corn, carrots, bananas, watermelon etc.. it's all be modified to make it appear more edible..

just like we modified the grey wolf into whippets and chihuahuas..

A lot of hidden gems in the smaller towns, the food taste better somehow when you sit outdoors and take in the scenery.

Bingo.

Went hiking and simply dropped into the local deli on our way out... picked up a delicious ciabatta / sandwich with rough/hand cut ham, cheese and arugula and a 1/2 litre Moretti... not get ready yanks... the beer cost less than a Euro, and the sandwich was 2 Euros.

and then there's the experience of getting elbowed in the ribs by the 4'9" italian ladies who you have to battle with in the delicatessen

With Trump as president, I'm afraid we are going to be talking about that subject a helluva lot in the next few months.

Sigh.

- Atomic Wedgie

Me too. As a scientist, this angers me almost as much as him being a terrible person. I'm understand that not everybody is informed about certain topics, but in that case you better be a (frank)ing saint!!!

Can't wait until someone tries to graft an avocado branch onto a banana palm so the human race can finally have banavocados

Also, corn apparently started out all tiny and poopty with only a dozen kernels on a single wilted tiny grasslike cob and over 3000 years it was developed into a giant monster of a cob with tons of kernels

It does seem that many of the highly touted prospects who drop in the draft end up dropping too far and become steals. See Chychrun, Jakob.

Bananas can't reproduce very well. Like it's super difficult. They don't have seeds like they originally did because it's been bred out of them to make them edible.

That's because, with all due respect, the majority of consumers are somewhere scientifically illiterate and scientifically blind. The very concept of the scientific process is like a foreign language to them, and even if they do understand it, all it takes is one skinny blonde with big tits (or even modest tits, see Paltrow, Gwynneth) to tell them something to the contrary and they fall for it hook, line and sinker.

Put another way - if something is presented which people cannot understand, they instead choose to believe something that they can understand, regardless of how false that may be, and particularly if there are enough lous, stupid voices in the same echo chamber.

- lumlums

agree and frankly speaking, i don't think in a lot of countries they even teach the scientific method. Sir Francis Bacon would not be proud of hte state of education.

Fries made from the actual potato being sliced and not from some powdered mash (McDs?) are probably still okay healthwise, especially if cooked in lard.

That seems odd given their shape.
