This, my friends, is the most important thing that we can teach our kids today.
Obesity is a full-blown epidemic today. The stat they always cite is that 1/3 of the population is overweight, and 1/3 of the population is obese.
What people don't realize is that 2/3rds of the population is unhealthy.
Teach your kids to cook. Teach them what normal-size portions are.
Seriously, obesity is the new smoking. And nobody seems to care. - Atomic Wedgie
I'm amazed at how few people seem to know basic nutrition 101. Calories, carbs, protein and fat, vitamins and minerals, daily requirements and so on. I taught myself that when I wanted to gain muscle working out with weights, and I realized why wasn't I taught this in school?
When you start looking at calorie counts on food, you realize wow, you really can't eat a whole lot of chips and pop.
Then cooking teaches you to taste and appreciate all kinds of food. The people I know who eat like poop don't know how to cook, to a shocking extent. Don't know how to put a chicken in the oven, or boil pasta. Everyone I know that cooks grew up with parents that cooked. |

I was reading an article and it said that parents would be fined if they let their kids walk home from school. You need to pick them up in a vehicle or have them on the bus even if you are a block a way from the school. - zazzle
I would rather raise my kids in a hippy commune than raise them with today's societal norms... |

I remember chasing my cousin around his house with a shot gun...also shooting at eachother with crossbows.....see who could come the closest.
Absolutely stupid and reckless.
Kids are raised differently...whether your a stupid kid from the country with chainsaw scares or a stupid kid from the city who has never mowed a lawn. Doesnt make you better prepared for life either way.
Unfortunately these days, social media, electronics and the mentality in schools that everyone wins and no one fails....that has had a negative effect.
"Oh we dont want to fail bobby...that would hurt him" No, if the kid didnt do the work and doesnt deserve to move on....fail him. Dont push him to the next grade.
I have a friend who's daughter plays on a soccer where everyone's number is the same....WTF.
Teach your kids the basics, be kind, think, show compassion and nothing in life comes to you by wishing for it. Work for it. - Fakepartofme
I'm laughing extra hard at this, because I coach my daughter's novice house league team.
At the start of the year, I sent out my long, rambling "Welcome to the Team" email.
One of the points was that each parent should submit their kid's top 3 choices for number, and I would try my best to accommodate the kids' wishes ("but I can't promise everyone will get their first or even second choice").
I got back requests for 86, 99, 87, 93 (I'm guessing that came from the dad, not the kid) - all sorts of really high numbers.
Ooops - I guess I should have explained that in house league, you get a strip of jerseys - numbers 1 through 17. |

No. tempting to be honest, but need to look forward, not backwards.
If trading for a forward, I’d rather use those assets for landeskog.
Or better yet, trade for a dman. |

Don't raise them on fast food!
My wife and I cut out all fast foods over 12 years ago, nada, nothing.
Everything is done at home, now the girl (10) helps with all dinner meals. There is no need for fast food and don't give me the BS that you have no time to cook or in a hurry, you can pre cook or pre plan every meal and when you have time, you can cook several meals, every one has a fridge and freezer compartment, no excuses. |

Well the Leafs are one of the top teams in terms of total time while leading.. were around #2-4 last time I saw
so if they are leading a lot..not many times down by 2 goals - senstroll
true.. but it also shows they dont have much experience without the lead.. and that'll suck if they go into the playoffs like that.. go down a goal and its pretty much game over. |

I noticed someone already provided the perfect answer:
No. They would need to shore up the D before looking for a high priced scoring winger. Despite the success so far this season, this Leafs team still has a ways to go before they can think about moving draft picks for that last piece to put them over the edge.
The 1st they got from Pitt was flipped for Freddie Andersen, and that blah prospect is still only 20 years old and an AHL all star. |

Pop is absolutely the worst. 150-200 calories of refined sugar at a time, and that's just one serving. And people never just have one serving. I've known people who literally drink 750+ calories of this junk every day, and it's not just the calories that are the issue, it's the fact that it causes your blood sugar to spike so (frank)ing high from even a partial portion. I'd be willing to wager that if you examined the health history of a good three quarters of type-2 diabetics in North America, you'd find an excess of either pop, booze or both to be involved. |

I was buying a lot of Perrier, Pellagrino even store brand, was costing a fortune because I mostly drink water. My wife bought me a soda stream a couple years ago, best investment ever. |

That was the big one for me. I still indulge in the odd pop or bad for me meal but I self cook a ton and drink pretty much only water and coffee. (Don't worry, no cream or sugar. Just a tsp of milk) |

or being a truck driver...
The whole survival of the fittest theory is coming full circle in America.
Obama and Michelle tried to make things better by making it mandatory kids eat fruit and vegtables at school... So congress reclassifies pizza and a vegetable.. |

Glad to hear that about the Soda Stream. I've got $100 gift card to Canadian Tire and went to grab one because I (frank)ing love sparkling water. Apparently a $20 off sale over the holidays was enough to sellout every city within 100km of the GTA. |
