I stuck a hunting knife into my hand while helping my dad skin a deer. Still have the scare today.. I was 9... We were 5.5 miles in the woods. He stuck a face cloth in my mouth and poured pure Iodine over the cut.. Shake it off.. - bixll
you mean the scotch he had in a flask?
theres still lots of reasonable people out there.. my family is very much the kind to tell you to stop whining.. unless you are seriously hurt..
funny story, we found out my nanny (74) needs surgery on her knee because her dog ran into her and knocked her down.. this happened a week ago, she went to the hospital 3 days ago and the doc wanted to operate asap, but she postponed.. She called us from Cuba to tell us this.. she didnt want to miss her trip
I just wish I would have started playing the guitar in 1975, instead of 3 years ago.. So, many parties,, I already have a sweet guitar for my first grand child... whenever he / she comes along.

Nope, he would never waste the Scotch, too far to carry it.. Still have the bottle of Iodine.. Good stuff.

You guys are forgetting that Children Services can now take your kid for yelling at him/her. ie: Brad Pitt.
The world is different now. As a dad, I hate the over parenting, poop world we live in but then I'm paranoid on the other side too.
If you punish your kid at all...your (frank)ed. If you let the kid have too much freedom...your (frank)ed.
Parenting definitely has a much finer line than when most of us were kids.
(And trust me, I just went thru it with teenage drinking. I'm the bumhole parent that got the group of boys together and told them I would kick all their asses if I caught them drinking again. The mothers almost called the cops on me....and they supplied the (frank)ing alcohol. )

My brother and I once played with an electric fan - in the sink.
Because filling the sink up with water, and making the water spin in cyclones was hilarious.
We probably did it for an hour before mom caught us. - Atomic Wedgie
I remember chasing my cousin around his house with a shot gun...also shooting at eachother with crossbows.....see who could come the closest.
Absolutely stupid and reckless.
Kids are raised differently...whether your a stupid kid from the country with chainsaw scares or a stupid kid from the city who has never mowed a lawn. Doesnt make you better prepared for life either way.
Unfortunately these days, social media, electronics and the mentality in schools that everyone wins and no one fails....that has had a negative effect.
"Oh we dont want to fail bobby...that would hurt him" No, if the kid didnt do the work and doesnt deserve to move on....fail him. Dont push him to the next grade.
I have a friend who's daughter plays on a soccer where everyone's number is the same....WTF.
Teach your kids the basics, be kind, think, show compassion and nothing in life comes to you by wishing for it. Work for it.
My soon to be 82 year old dad is still doing stuff.
My parents' house has a solarium - basically a room made up of windows, including a slanted roof.
My dad refuses to pay anyone to clean the roof - he will get up on a ladder and climb up on the roof (so he needs to step perfectly on the cross beams, or you know, kill himself) with a bucket of water and a squeegie and clean it.
Or last year, he asked me to come up to the house on the weekend - they had bought a new washer and dryer, and the delivery guys wanted to charge him $50 to haul the old ones out of the basement. That was an outrage - so he wanted me to come up and help him get them out himself.
They paid off their house in 1975. They both have full pensions. And he wants to risk his life for $50. - Atomic Wedgie

I was reading an article and it said that parents would be fined if they let their kids walk home from school. You need to pick them up in a vehicle or have them on the bus even if you are a block a way from the school.

you did the right thing..
those kids will remember that.
i would have told the parents ill come kick your ass too if you give my kid alcohol again.
Alcohol should be introduced (if at all) in an environment with family around in the spirit of good times. Ie playing cards, bonfire, watching hockey... not let them do it on their own somewhere without supervision.. My uncles got me wasted when i was 11 and thats too young imo.. but by the time i got to high school i thought everyone was an idiot when they drank.

Yep, it's crazy. I remember a similar story about a mom who was fighting Children Services to keep her kids because they were playing outside on their own lawn for TOO LONG unsupervised.
