That 1st pick isn't going to be as valuable as it's been the last few years. Seems to be a fairly steep drop off after the first 2 or 3 picks.
Giving both up would be tough, but you have to give to get. Not sure that the Avs would bite on that offer but that's pretty much as high as I'd go. Unless they wanted to start throwing back a prospect or 2, I wouldn't add to it. - Isleshockeyman
I think this draft figures to be somewhat weak from the top down. Nolan Patrick is very likely to be more "Ryan Nugent-Hopkins" than "McDavid/Tavares/Matthews/etc..."
Nico Hischier is a real interesting prospect to me though. He's killing it this year (31g, 32a in 37gp) for Halifax. He recorded 13 shots in one game either last night or the night before. He had a monster WJC's. |

(frank) that. Fire Ladd into the mother(frank)ing sun. Just don't move my boy Lee. - Wildschwein
That's a shame. I was just going to propose a trade to send him your way. Oh well, never mind now. |

If your going to run a team up at the cap, you might as well have the talent that reflects that. |

No, but it'd be a start. If they could shed one or 2 of Bailey, Grabo (impossible), Kuli or Halak for a couple picks, you might be able to free up enough space. Still not sure if that'd be enough though. - Isleshockeyman
So let's pretend that COL accepts Hamonic, Barzal, Pulock, Halak and a 1st for Dutchy/Landy
That's $11,571,429 coming in the door and $8,357,143 going out, for a net increase of $3,214,286 in cap money.
Dumping Bailey's $3,300,000 in a separate deal would make the money a wash. Dumping anyone who makes more than Bailey would actually result in the Islanders having less money in payroll than they do currently.

Isles need Halak bc of needing a G to expose for expansion draft, unless they sign 1 of the 2 now in Berube or Greiss |

I would think that the Isles are more likely to lose Hickey or de Haan than Greiss in the expansion draft.
Also, keeping Halak so we can expose him to an expansion draft rather than getting rid of him to acquire Duchene/Landeskog would be the most short-sighted move in the history of sports. Let's not pretend Greiss is an all-star goaltender. |

Its a penalty if teams dont expose a G, Halak is the only G signed for next year,
that was my point
Greiss is a journeyman G, his value is high right now bc of recent play & salary status, needs to be moved |

Well, and this just dawned on me, the expansion draft will be in June...so it's not like any potential trades have to happen before the draft. Halak can be exposed (he most certainly wouldn't be selected) and then traded after the draft. |

Dammit man are none of the New Yorker stereotypes accurate? Surely someone here has gotta know somebody who can go all Good Fellas on his ass. |

I said a week or so back he'd be my choice as he's around a 2 3 pick and that's where the isles are currently he almost single handedly beat team usa |

My guess is the top 3 picks are going to be, in order:
1: Patrick
2: Hischier
3: Liljegren
Hischier did look great at the WJC's, but I tend to be very weary of prospects coming out of the Q. That's a high-scoring league and their numbers are always inflated. Perfect example is Dubois. Put up huge numbers in his draft year, selected 3rd overall by CBJ...has had a putrid season and an embarrassingly-bad WJC. |

Yeah, it's pretty lackluster.
I'm interested in Owen Tippett, too. 34g (57pts) in 41gp for a speedy 6'2'' RW? I think he's played his way into a top-5 spot. |

Yeah the q doesn't do defense but he did this in world Jr's where the competition is higher so that's a good sign plus beau came out of there and scored a lot and is a good 2 way player. They are different types of players but I think being that high of a pick he can be at least a top six |

Yeah I think penciling him in for a top-6 role would be reasonable. I'd happily take the kid at 2, if that's where we picked. Liljegren would be a great pick too at 3. If we end up outside the top 3, I really like Tippett. |

Strome and de Haan drop the gloves during a drill. Not much fighting, but a few hard slashes before.
