He absolutely was. He was an oft injured, d-man trying to find his way at a high cap hit.
His career high is 30 points, he hit 24 last year which is his 2nd highest output in his 9 year career.

I don't judge defensemen on how many points they score. I judge them on how well they prevent the other team from scoring..... which is what they are paid to do. He isn't "preventing" anything on defense it seems, he lost his speed and he isn't punishing like he used to be.

He's not playing like he did in WPG.

So where do you rank Ristolainen? Because outside of points on the power play, he doesn't have anything flattering as far as numbers go.

I think part of that is Bylsma, I think another part of that is he's over rated. **still pretty good**

I agree 100% .. but that's matthews game.. always in front of the net.. that's awesome considering he is only 19 and most young guys get intimidated going there.. and the board play is outstanding.. he makes it look effortless...

Eichel is definitely more explosive but not more skilled

I think Eichel is more elegant than Matthews. If that makes any sense. Matthews seems to make the right, dirty play, Eichel seems to be more of an artist weaving, that long stride, picking his shot. There's nothing wrong with either, just a different style.

Why do people think that the Leafs just "bottomed out" last year, they've been horrendous for a while, they got lucky in the lockout year and made the playoffs, but before that it had been a very long time. How many times have the Sabres finished ahead of the Leafs in the last 10 years since the '04 lockout? 7 times. They (frank)ing should be good with all their picks. And they're still not, big deal, they're ahead of the Sabres, but they're still closer to the bottom than the top. Same with the Oilers, they should've been good 4 years ago. They're actually halfway decent this year.

I'm actually cutting way back.

trying to lose weight - got on the scale Christmas Day and nearly cried.

Only drinking hard one day a week (I still give myself one to sip on for each period) and back at the gym 4 mornings a week. Down 19 pounds since Christmas Day so far. I even bought a road bike, again, and I'm planning to get back into the triathlons again. First I gotta drop another 20 pounds - could lose another 30.
