Seriously, what a mean / terrible slash. How did he not get 10+ games? Not that it mattered, just saying. Can't have that in the game.

Gorges was signed for tank purposes and performed according to expectations until better and younger D-men could develop. That's what's happening now. So he's served his purpose. Franson is the same. Bogosian is clearly dropped off but I still don't blame Murray for picking him up in that deal. He wasn't playing like this in Winnipeg by the way.
- fastek

He absolutely was. He was an oft injured, d-man trying to find his way at a high cap hit.
His career high is 30 points, he hit 24 last year which is his 2nd highest output in his 9 year career.

Right I get it, ok, Eichel (20) Reinhart (21) Ristoleninen (22) and A Nylander (18).

Just that none of are players are "rookies". Nylander played 22 games last year, so by the rules he is still a rookie, but not really the same (in my brain).

Marner seems like (how can he not?) he will have more points than Reinhart for their rookie years.

Matthews seems like he will pass Eichel too (currently at 37 points, Eichel finished with 56), but still needs to score at around 0.5 pt/game to tie, which seems likely.

So when we say Toronto is on quick rebuild, getting the 5th overall (2012) 8th overall pick (2014), 4th overall (2015) then 1st overall (2016), they just did it in reverse compared to us.

Risto 8th overall (2013), Reinhart 2nd overall (2014), Eichel 2nd overall (2015), Nylander 8th overall (2016).

- Lilroot9

indeed, the leafs have been rebuilding for years. just because they didnt tank that doesnt mean we didnt get reilly and nylander. we just sucked real bad those years.... while trying to win. that was painful back then.

I actually think he's looked slightly competent on the let hand side of Franson

If he hadn't made any of those trades, you mean to tell me that during last season you wouldn't have complained about how awful we were for the 3rd year in a row?

I'm sorry, but this fan base was already tearing each other limb from limb after the first two 30th place finishes. Can't imagine what last year would have been like had they bottomed out a 3rd year in a row.

Mitch does quite well staying out of dangerous plays, but if someone takes a run at him there's not much he can do. Lindros got rocked and he was a beast
- walshyleafsfan

lindros skated into players. marners vision and agility allowhim to sidestep that poop.

if hegets a major injury itll be a leg or lower body injury dueto sidestepping a hit but not getting completely out o the way. either way he is less likely toget hurt than the average nhl player

The Sabres players need to make a statement. Here and now.

The statement needs to be two things:

1) We are serious about winning; AND

2) We will not play this system, Bylsma needs to go.

That starts by playing a high-flying game and winning against a division rival.

i havent seen enough eichel to say, but ror isnt in the same category as eichel and auston

matthews is (frank)ing amazing .9 ppg and in the top of the league in goals. he plays a 200ft game already and has jagr like puck possessing abilities along the boards. after 41 games he is far exceeding the super high expectations people had.

he has a knack for sneaking into open ice in the slot and down low by the net, he just knows where he needs to be

So the Sabres have missed a lot of man games which has effected their team results, Toronto not so much.

Toronto is younger (25.7 to Sabres 26.2) but not by much. They have strong "rookies", but if you look at the details, they are not Matthews age rookies.

They are getting rookie support from Hyman (24 years old, but a 6th? round pick) and others similar. So my question / comment will be is it sustainable? You see a lot of rookies have break out years and then come back to earth. Same could be said for our players, but they seem to have more unproven players playing really well. Where we have O'Reilly (proven), Kane (fairly proven), Okposo (proven) to back them up.

It will be interesting the next few years to see how these two progress / compete against each other. Hopefully we come out ahead, long term.

- Lilroot9

Bozak Jvr kadri Komorov and Martin are proven up front
You mentioned Hyman, who is the reason for their solid PK..the guy works like a dog.. you forgot Connor brown, who works just as hard and skates just as fast but he can score and make plays, over 120 pts last yr in junior..ahl rookie of the yr etc...

These guys can hit a brick wall and still be unbelievably effective... so can Gauthier ( great face off and pk guy)..

So you have matthews marner nylander Hyman and brown as the core... the first 2 are way too skilled to hit a wall and the last 2 just have a work ethic like noone in the league..

And then you have proven guys that I mentioned
The Leafs forward group is deep... it's deep now.. these guys get some experience it's going to be scary

9-0-2 in last 11 on the road.. yet someone points out they haven't won at home since Nov. 26th lol

He has not been terrible.
But Murray needed him to be 2-4 d-man good, which he has not been.

Oh I agree. He's IMO priority #1 to dump off the roster.

Actually, it's a 3-way tie with Gorges/D-Lo

I didn't notice him in the first handful of games he played. Then he got hurt. When he came back, he was a tire fire (as per usual for him). He's starting to settle back in finally from the injury. But this is the pattern with him.

If he could stay healthy, he'd be just fine as one of the guys in a middle pairing role, IMO. The problem is that he can't stay healthy for a full season and then when he comes back he's brutal for at least 10 games.

D-Lo doesn't bother me really. He's a 4th liner that will fight when need be and makes next to nothing.

Is it possible that someone else could do more than him in that spot? Sure. But really, he's barely a blip on my radar in terms of guys that aren't earning their paycheck and need to go.

Injuries happen to everyone. He's not less likely to get hurt because he's fast and agile. Just ask Connor McDavid...or Pat Kane...
