Fluky goals happen as do bad breaks, but I'm more annoyed about the second. He should have been our pick.
- hockeylover

I can handle the shi! luck bad bounces and seeing eye pucks, but why did it have to be that guy? Of the18 players on the Hawks, why him? "Fate it seems, is not without a sense of irony!"

I still think the league has rigged some drafts in recent history if I'm being honest...

Absolutely.

When guys like Sanheim, Morin, Hagg and Myers are starting to get into the lineup I need more then what Giroux is giving me.

- J35Bacher

I agree completely that we need more out of Giroux, and his defensive effort lately is inexcusable. With that said, I'd be willing to bet that if a stronger team was put around Giroux, we'd get more out of him. He's just no longer a player that can put a team on his back and carry them, but I bet he could still be a top player on a good team.

I think I remember throwing up in my throat a bit when I saw that hit...I was at Game 5 of that series and the Devils took it to the Flyers all game. When I heard Big E was coming back, I thought they'd win it all. I wanted to kill Stevens for that shi! that he pulled...

- aantny88

Stevens, Lemieux, Holik, Daneyko, Brodeur, McKay... there's a long list of players that I'd like to kill from that team!

edit: the Devils in general, not just the (frank)ers from the 2000 squad!

Yeah it's not been real pretty since the lockout, especially when you compare it to prior to 2005.

67-68 to 03-04: 37 seasons
only missed the playoffs 7 times
went to the "final four" 14 times
7 Cup final appearances
2 Stanley Cups

05-06 to today: 11 seasons and counting
missed the playoffs 3 times (could very well be 4 after this year)
"final four" appearances: 2 (none since 2010)
Finals: 1 (none since 2010)
Cups: 0

So far, the cap era has not been so hot.

- BiggE

the 70s and 80 teams were built via the draft for the most part but after that the Flyers, being a big market team, threw lots of money out there. think about what they were paying guys prior to the cap. this is why i am ok with being patient with Hextall's way of building a team....through the draft. you can't buy your way to championship quality teams anymore. the way of doing things haven't worked much post salary cap so I am more than ready to have this organization run differntly

Amen!!
I agree 100%

edit: I think with Hexy, they finally have a GM who understands what you need to do to be successful in a capped league.

He had one on Langkow earlier in that series that was equally as bad.

The thing that makes the Kane goal tolerable was the fact they wouldn't have won a game 7 in Chicago. That is at least what I tell myself.

To me, the toughest moment in Flyers history was the Stevens hit on Lindros. Essentially that prevented the Flyers from winning the Cup that year. They would have beat the Stars imo. Not to mention it ended Lindros' Flyers career.

I'm not old enough to remember the Leon Stickle non call in 1980. I will let others speak to that.

- PLindbergh31

I was watching that game at bar on South street with a few Flyers fans and one Devils fan. I could have stabbed him after the hit

Not sure what pissed me off more...them losing in OT at home in Game 6, or this ridiculous irony that the guy who scored the goal, should've been wearing Orange & Black!
- aantny88

In hindsight I'm very happy he isn't.

I will forever hate all of those wieners and the entire franchise...they practically ruined the game of hockey for a decade with that boring a$$ trap and cheap shot tactics. Marty Brodeur was the bane of Flyers existence for years too! Even now, I hate when they play the damn Devils

In no particular order, here are the 10 times I was the angriest at either a Flyers game or with a move the team made:

1. Leon Stickle blows the easiest offsides call in NHL history in game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals in 1980.

2. Bobby Clarke trades Brad McCrimmon for a couple of draft picks in 1987. I thought Clarke was out of his (frank)ing mind for making that move.

3. Claude (frank)ing Lemieux's shenanigans during the 87 series vs Montreal.

4. Havlat's crap in the game against Ottawa in 2004. I still have dreams where Brashear actually gets his hands on that slimy little (frank)er!

5. The Stevens hit on Lindros, game 7, 2000 conference finals

6. Clarke trades Kent Mandeville for scumbag thug Billy Tibbets

7. Every goddamned time I had to look at Tomas (frank)ing Sandstrom. My only regret is that Brownie's crosscheck didn't decapitate that bumhole!

8. The Flyers utter ineptitude in games 2, 3, 4, and 5 vs Ottawa in 2002.

9. Clarke signing Vanbiesbrouck over Cujo in 1998. Hated it then, still hate it now.

10. Most of the team publicly turning on coach Bill Barber in 2002. I don't care what happened on the ice, in the room or during practices. The poor man just lost his wife for crissakes and they go on and throw him under the bus. It was sickening.

I get that we are all pining for a cup. I've been to both Phillies parades and the sixers one in 83 but no sport has my love like hockey and I want to see a cup win in my adult life BAD. I just know what hasn't worked so I am going to be patient while Hextall tries to fix this team and builds it for the long run

You can make that statement about almost any guy on any team.

My problem is at 8million cap hit he should be the best player for the Flyers most nights either in production or effort.

all great ones. I would add Alexander Perezhogin ending Primeau's career. (frank)er.

Saw a quote from Clarke last week where he said one of his biggest mistakes was not signing Cujo

The craziest thing about that whole scenario was that he was in the box for everything. His buttend on Recchi in the previous meeting was what set everything in motion. Then he gets to sit in the box while pretty much every other person fought. That game was insane. I was a junior in high school and my uncle took me that night. We may have lost most of the fights (some in bad fashion) but imagine if our regulars were healthy... Wooo buddy.
