I agree. However, I also think it is deflating to the goalie to have to cover for mistakes and lack of back checking on a constant basis.

sadly we also just become so immune to not winning. I mean, we may be disappointed, mad, whatever, but there are just so many season's of not winning it all that you just become immune
- nastyflyergirl

Yeah it's not been real pretty since the lockout, especially when you compare it to prior to 2005.

67-68 to 03-04: 37 seasons
only missed the playoffs 7 times
went to the "final four" 14 times
7 Cup final appearances
2 Stanley Cups

05-06 to today: 11 seasons and counting
missed the playoffs 3 times (could very well be 4 after this year)
"final four" appearances: 2 (none since 2010)
Finals: 1 (none since 2010)
Cups: 0

So far, the cap era has not been so hot.

Man oh man, was I one furious 14 year old kid in 1980. I would have murdered Leon Stickle if I could have got my hands on him back then. Thankfully, I've mellowed in my old age. If I ran into Stickle today, I'd just put him in a choke hold til he coughed up the cash to buy me a nice bottle of 30 year old Macallan.

Not sure if they would have taken game 7 in 1980 though, as much as it pains me to say it. Clarke has commented that they were really beat up and spent at that point and he didn't know if they would have enough left in the tank to win one more game. The home ice advantage for our boys was huge back then so they may have done it, but the Islanders team was just deeper and healthier than our squad.

I really think they would have dug deep for one more. if they had to go another round then no, but one more game I believe in my heart they win

I've been to easily over 400 games in my life doing the math and Game 6 of the 87 finals to this day was THE most exciting game I have ever been to. OMG the Spectrum rocked. I remember jumping into the arms of the guy next to me. He wasn't the usual guy and his gf who sat next to my seats so I'm sure I scared him I was so sure they were winning game 7. Just though the hockey gods were going to give it to them. When they scored first I thought yeah this is it. then heartbreak

Same for me. That was awful. I almost had tears when that happened.

I know a few people that were at the game, and they said literally the air just went out of the building. That is in a game 7 of the ECF in a tie game. You just knew what the outcome was going to be.

I wish Hak would bring out some films of the Flyers PP with Big Tim Kerr between the circles ripping a wrister upper corner. Would like to see Wayne Train in a similar spot sometime on the PP.
- konalover711

I love Wayne, but he just doesn't have the ridiculously quick release that Kerr had. They are 2 very different types of players.

I ran into Terry Gregson at a golf course (Guelph Lakes) the summer after his goofy call on Leclair, late in the third period, that led the flyers to being eliminated, ....I told him I thought he was a decent ref but I wished Ed Snider would have ripped his head off after that brutal call....He Said "listen, It was an elbow"...I responded that Brind'amour had just been tackled and yet he saw fit to miss that one...5 feet in front of him....

Yup, I was at that game in 87 too and I thought the roof was gonna pull a 67 and come off when JJ put that one in!!

I still remember someone (Propp maybe??) put one off the post shortly after Craven scored that first goal. I remember my dad turning to me and saying that was going to come back and haunt them. Man, I hate it when the old man's right.

Exactly Kerr could snipe from that range. It was unfair almost how quick his shot got off .

I can only imagine what he could have done under the current rules when opposing D wouldn't be able to hold, hack and mug him. His skating would have been a detriment at ES, but JFC, he might have scored 50 just on the damn pp!

I'd like to see Schenn and Simmonds trade places a little more when the puck is on the right side of the ice. It would open up another one time opportunity. They have to get rid of that net front drive Simmonds attempts a few times a game when Giroux passes the puck to him at the goal line on the left side. I think the last time it worked was 2015.

The one thing that bothers me is that we all can complain about Couturier or Schenn or the goalies but I am starting to really worry about Giroux. He needs to be better and we can't keep going back to this (most points in NHL since 2005) thing people like to tell me. Not saying on here but some people I talk with.

For the captain and a guy carrying a 8mil cap hit he needs to be better. And needs to be better nightly. You get that money and that captaincy because your supposed to be the guy everyone looks to at this time. Even if not scoring you should be doing other tings(playing good defensively, being hard on the forecehck, maybe even mixing it up a little).

And right now he isn't. And I am not sure as he ages his game will translate. He seems to have lost a step, he seems to get lazy in his own zone and the PP to me seems to run more through Voracek then Giroux these days.

and Neuvirth, apparently

Mason could be covering up some issues better, but he is not the biggest problem on this team by any stretch of the imagination. The defense itself (from a skill level perspective) wasn't as good in 14 or 15, but the forwards were absolutely better in coverage and the team defense was much better

- YuenglingJagr

Bad defense excuses didn't work for Bryz, and they won't work for any other Flyers goalie who plays close to 40 games at .900 or below.

Yup, I have been saying this all season and really, he seems to have been in decline the last couple of seasons. He's still a beast on the pp and can be scary in OT, but this team really needs someone who can step up and be a true 1C at ES.

I didn't cry when Kane scored the GWG. I was in such a state of shock that I had no emotions at that point. I almost cried when they lost in the ECF in 2004, though. And much like you with the Nystrom goal, I cannot bring myself to watch a replay of the Kane OT goal.
- jmatchett383

Not sure what pissed me off more...them losing in OT at home in Game 6, or this ridiculous irony that the guy who scored the goal, should've been wearing Orange & Black!

Absolutely.

When guys like Sanheim, Morin, Hagg and Myers are starting to get into the lineup I need more then what Giroux is giving me.

This. Had it been another player, or even another team, I may have cried a tear or two over the loss. But when Kane scored that goal it was more a feeling of this is just our luck. So much saltiness. Complete state of disbelief.

The thing that makes the Kane goal tolerable was the fact they wouldn't have won a game 7 in Chicago. That is at least what I tell myself.

To me, the toughest moment in Flyers history was the Stevens hit on Lindros. Essentially that prevented the Flyers from winning the Cup that year. They would have beat the Stars imo. Not to mention it ended Lindros' Flyers career.

I'm not old enough to remember the Leon Stickle non call in 1980. I will let others speak to that.

- PLindbergh31

I think I remember throwing up in my throat a bit when I saw that hit...I was at Game 5 of that series and the Devils took it to the Flyers all game. When I heard Big E was coming back, I thought they'd win it all. I wanted to kill Stevens for that shi! that he pulled...
