I know it's a little different since he wasn't AHL eligible, but Provy didn't play a pro season and stuck with the Flyers. But my question was more geared towards the fact of how young our team's defense is going to be and how many rookies are going to be in it. I know Carolina has had a lot of youth in their defense, but as a GM how comfortable are you with it? Especially with how hesitant Hexy has been with developing and timing.

Yes, but if we have 4 rookies ready next year, I don't think they all jump into the NHL at once. So if some don't make it out of camp, the likeliest to go down would be the guy with no pro experience.

Ah very true, now I see what you meant. But what if the guy with no pro experience plays better in camp than the rest ? (Joking)

Well, yes, if he dominates and the others just look "ready" it's a matter of how ready they are. Just speaking all things equal.

But right now, from what I've read and seen, I think he may be ready to make the jump next year. We'll have to see how the numbers play out.

And probably bump Fazleev out if the lineup because Scott Gordon can never have enough veterans. Yay?

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Boyd was the worst player on the Phantoms.

I don't think Gordon's gonna play Gordon too much, but we'll see. I'm just glad he's no longer a 4th line option for Hakstol.

Also doesn't the AHL have a limit on NHL players you can dress?

In his 3 full seasons here, he's played 61, 51, and 54 games while posting a 0.921 save percentage. He ALMOST single-handedly won the the 2014 Rangers series, specifically game 7. He's not Carey Price or Henrik Lundqvist, but he's been a legit starter up until last year's ECQF. I'm not going to let a few bad months be the barometer over 3 good/great years.

Given him or Bobrovsky, I'd take Bob. But that's not saying Mason is bad, just that Bob is better.

- jmatchett383

Bob is also making 7,425,000 to Mason's 4,100,000.

He's gonna win SOOOOO many faceoffs down there.

He'll be a decent 3rd or 4th liner down there.

Yes, but even with Gordon they only have five 320+ veterans, and one 260-320 veteran. So they can play all of them at once.

Of the 18 skaters (not counting two goaltenders) that teams may dress for a game, at least 13 must be qualified as “development players.” Of those 13, 12 must have played in 260 or fewer professional games (including AHL, NHL and European elite leagues), and one must have played in 320 or fewer professional games. All calculations for development status are based on regular-season totals as of the start of the season.

Boyd Gordon 889
Chris Conner 651
Colin McDonald 645
T.J. Brennan 496
Andy Miele 370
Will O'Neill 280
Jordan Weal 236

Pretty sure you can only dress a max amount of veterans each game.

I wish it was sooner. Between the expansion draft and our prospects it's been hard to focus on "the now" this season, especially in recent weeks.

Which are the 4 former players who have had a hand in beating us this year? Also, Dale Weise had an assist in the Vancouver game.

Edit: Del Zotto had an assist against Nashville, too, and Streit had 1 against NYI. That makes 4 Flyers scoring against their former team in games that they won.

Also, Neuvirth won games against both Buffalo and the Islanders.

Was counting goals not points...but ok...and goaltenders

Nice write up, Billy. The passion, intensity, and heart are the glue that holds together my love for hockey. Only football comes close to it. It's also a proud characteristic of Philadelphia citizens in general which endears this team to us so profoundly.

It looks like the players scratched from game to game varies. Last 3 games

Fazleev, O’neill
Martel, Wilcox
Aube-Kubel, Wilcox

Gordon of course gives them one more extra forward

I agree that it will be infuriating if a kid sits for Gordon.

As opposed to...?

Toronto was supposed to have scoring woes this year with all the rookies in their lineup. They seem to be doing quite alright.

Gordon was the best option for 4th line center. We know this because Hextall put him on the team and Hakstol played him. Currently, we know Gordon is not the best option for 4th line center because Hakstol scratched him and Hextall waived him. At no point before or during the time he spent on the Flyers and on the 4th line did we, as fans that aren't part of an NHL organ-I-zation, recognize or declare that Hextall and Hakstol made a mistake.
