Bryzgalov was disliked in this town as a direct result of Too many pucks to the head Holmgren giving Bryzgalov $100 million for mediocre at best play. Fast forward to now, Mason is not a #1 in my opinion. They basically have two backup goalies that they are platooning, instead of Bob who they could have groomed to be that guy. The common link: Paul Holmgren. He screwed up TWICE - at least.

I think most agree that the whole goalie carousel/Bryz/Bob thing was a mistake.

But, based on his 3+ years as a Flyers' goalie, Mason has put up top-10 numbers behind a patchwork defense. He's had a bad season this year, but over the course of his Flyers' career, his numbers have been those of a legit #1 starter despite, again, a pretty bad defense in front of him.

I probably am very Leight with this since I was very inactive here all weekend, but did anyone see Pryor's comments about Hagg being "just about NHL ready?" Did anyone find them semi surprisng? I know Hagg has flown under the radar perhaps with the excitement between Morin, Sanheim, and Myers, but can anyone else add to how Hagg has played this year? I know he had some time off with an injury earlier in the year but really haven't heard/read much about him other than that. I find it fascinating him being called close to NHL ready with how well Morin and Sanheim have played this year, as well as McKenzie's recent praise for Myers calling him close to NHL ready.

It's not Mason's numbers that concern me. It's more the fact that he isn't the workhorse that they are making him out to be. He is not a guy who can play 50 or 60 games a season, and then be expected to carry a team in the playoffs. Some guys have it, some don't. Steve Mason doesn't. Neither does Michael Neuvirth. We'll find out this year for Columbus, if Bobrovsky does. I'm thinking he does have "it".

In his 3 full seasons here, he's played 61, 51, and 54 games while posting a 0.921 save percentage. He ALMOST single-handedly won the the 2014 Rangers series, specifically game 7. He's not Carey Price or Henrik Lundqvist, but he's been a legit starter up until last year's ECQF. I'm not going to let a few bad months be the barometer over 3 good/great years.

Given him or Bobrovsky, I'd take Bob. But that's not saying Mason is bad, just that Bob is better.

Could be, but it's interesting. Most of us on here, myself included, have been focused on Morin being the next d man called up. And it could even be said Hagg has almost been written off, kinda like Joe Blanton when Philly had the 4 Aces. I know Pryor said he's close to NHL already, but I wonder who our organization views as the next dman called up between Morin and Hagg. It also makes me wonder what the heck does Hexy do if come next fall we have Hagg, Morin, Sanheim, and Myers all looking NHL ready? Good problem to have, eh?

Every time that the Flyers face off against a former player, he has a great game against them. This never happens to other teams, and the Flyers never have players that score against their former teams.

I hate how we got lit up by Carter and Hartnell in our games against LA and Columbus.

- jmatchett383
I don't know about other teams as I don't follow them and/or don't care.
I do care that only Gudas has scored against former team this year and 4 former players have already had a hand in beating us this year.
Again, I understand it happens to other teams that I can give an S about...it merely seems like we have a scale that does not seem to ever go in our favor over the course of a season...

If all 4 are ready, Myers would likely start in the AHL since he's never played a pro season.

Boyd Gordon could make his Phantoms debut this Friday. So it's not all doom and gloom.

Which are the 4 former players who have had a hand in beating us this year? Also, Dale Weise had an assist in the Vancouver game.

Edit: Del Zotto had an assist against Nashville, too, and Streit had 1 against NYI. That makes 4 Flyers scoring against their former team in games that they won.

Also, Neuvirth won games against both Buffalo and the Islanders.

I saw Hagg play 2 weeks ago and thought he looked really good but it was one game in a game the Phantoms won 2-0

And probably bump Fazleev out if the lineup because Scott Gordon can never have enough veterans. Yay?

It honestly wouldn't surprise me if Boyd was the worst player on the Phantoms.

I know it's a little different since he wasn't AHL eligible, but Provy didn't play a pro season and stuck with the Flyers. But my question was more geared towards the fact of how young our team's defense is going to be and how many rookies are going to be in it. I know Carolina has had a lot of youth in their defense, but as a GM how comfortable are you with it? Especially with how hesitant Hexy has been with developing and timing.

Thanks

I've been meaning to make a Phantoms game but has been too tough with work and fighting off constant colds/bugs. Heard it's worth the trip though!
