Come on, MRN. You wanted to bring Ryan Graves up to take one of their spots. It's pretty clear that you would prefer literally any defensemen in the world to play ahead of those two guys, so you are elevating Franson and Stone to be something they aren't.

I am not saying that the Rangers don't need help on the right side, because they do, but help like Franson or Stone (absent an injury that requires Gorton to acquire depth) is just like pissing in the wind. Neither would make a substantial difference.

completely agree. though, i would like to see Graves over Clendening. just to give him a look.

AV says he'd like to carry 13 F and 7 D moving forward, but always good to have "cash" (space) avail at trade deadline...

Oh yeah, sure, the Rangers are standing pat at the deadline...

If things don't fall apart, the Rangers are going to trade for Shattenkirk at the deadline, and I think Klein goes the other way as part of that deal to give the Blues a serviceable right handed defensemen to mitigate the loss for the playoffs. Just my prediction, but I think this is the obvious play for the Rangers if they want to make a run this year, and I think they will take it unless the price is over the moon.

Thinking they may trade one of Graves or Day. That left side is so crowded, what's the point of having 5 LH shots?

just because they have the space available doesnt mean they have to use it. I dont really see that many guys out there available that would be worth acquiring anyway.

on D - has anyone considered Mike Green. I know he has another year left, but if they rangers could acquire him and then trade him in off season he would be a decent pick up. PP QB and decent 3rd pairing guy. right shot too. we have the space this year to get him. Not sure what Det would want for him though.

I think Day's value is going to go up over time, so I would keep him around for a couple of years, and then see how things shake out. I think Day has all-world ability, but maybe a 10 cent brain which could hold him back.

I've thought about Green, and think he would be a decent add. If Detroit would be willing to keep some of the salary for next year, I would be fine with him.

they cant trade Day as far as i am concerned. they took a huge risk in drafting him and he is just starting to pay dividends. He looks like he could be a stud. we are rather thin on the prospects front. i think gorton will want to hold on to a few of these guys.

I agree with you. But this is the Rangers. They traded Duclair when his value was at it's height. They could do it again with day. Graves' value also rising. He's going to have north of 35 point season in Hartford if he stays healthy.

if we can trade him during off season, no need for salary retention. if they are willing to give us him for a 3rd or 4th rounder, i would do that. trade him for a bag of pucks next year.

My point on Day is that I don't think his value is even close to being at it's height. His skating ability is absolutely elite -- like Top 5 elite, and he has a cannon of a shot. It amazes me that he dropped to where he did in the draft. One of my buddies that knows him, says he's dumb as a box of rocks.

you have a point. though i question if this is the same rangers team of the past. Sather no longer GM. is it gorton calling the shots? or still Sather? Gorton seems to value younger players more.

Sure, but if they do get Detroit to retain a little salary (without paying too much for it), he actually becomes an asset you can trade in the off-season, because Green at $4 million bucks or so is actually a pretty good deal.

i agree. though i think from Det's point of view, trading Green would be to clear up cap space. either way i would be fine with it. really depends on if Det are sellers or not and what they are asking for.

Everytime I heard "he doesn't know his own strength", I pictured Kreider stroking a girls hair with disastrous results.

I'm wondering if they make a few moves considering how much cap space is\will be present.
