Matt, I do agree. Team is way more balanced offensively then it has ever been, so in theory Nash should have more opportunities, as it is not as easy to focus on his line. I do, however, think that Nash being at his best is really necessary for the Rangers to get through that division in the playoffs. - Pete V
It's pick your poison, either the Zibanejad Stepan or Hayes line is going to draw the 3rd pair D. When one line gets going the others are going to get favorable match ups. Going to be tough for teams to match up with.

No doubt, but as we also know, in the playoffs things tighten up, so the Rangers are going to have to keep the puck out of their own net. Hank has to be better. The defense has to be better. If those things don't happen, we are going to have a problem no matter how deep the team is upfront.

Do you think Franson or Stone solve that problem? Or do u think a guy like Tyler Myers could be had for a 1st+

I don't think Tyler Myers can be had for a first.
I think if Staal is out long term, I think the Rangers will have to make a rental defensemen type move.
I think if Staal is back, I don't think a Franson or Stone type helps much, because honestly, I don't think they are any better than what we already have.

I do, and I only have to read his occasional posts.
I do agree with you though, Nash has to have a good playoffs. Also agree with Jimbo it should be this year. Best offense they have had in sometime. - mdw7413

no to all the above. Franson = horrid. Stone - is he really much better than what we already have? would probably only take time away from Skjei - we all know how AV thinks.
And Myers just costs too much for a 3rd Dman. He isnt a top 2, he is a 3-4 guy. I would be ok with them getting someone to replace Clendening.
I don't think so. Let's be honest, you don't watch those guys on a regular basis. You would take anybody over Klein and Girardi right now. - Pete V
Girardi is toast and Klein oddly is as well
Both are being exposed now.. when they get to the PO's its going to be much worse. If both are playing each night come April we have major major issues

AV says he'd like to carry 13 F and 7 D moving forward, but always good to have "cash" (space) avail at trade deadline...
Oh yeah, sure, the Rangers are standing pat at the deadline...

I dont see how anyone can deny this - mrn22
Come on, MRN. You wanted to bring Ryan Graves up to take one of their spots. It's pretty clear that you would prefer literally any defensemen in the world to play ahead of those two guys, so you are elevating Franson and Stone to be something they aren't.
I am not saying that the Rangers don't need help on the right side, because they do, but help like Franson or Stone (absent an injury that requires Gorton to acquire depth) is just like pissing in the wind. Neither would make a substantial difference.

I dont disagree with anything you just said. Where we disagree is how bad Girardi and Klein are. I really think those two are much more addition by subtraction than you think but hey thats just my opinion
