Yeah, that was the biggest weakness of the article. The whole "if you keep him until he walks, you don't get nothing, you get JVR until his contract ends" argument is never one I thought highly of.
Letting him walk for nothing is still poop even if he plays great up until that point.
I suppose it is possible they could resign him. Maybe he'll actually sign a value contract to stay on a team that could be a contender soon? - Thecakeisalie
I think its all up to how much management likes him.
I'm sure Babs likes him and all, but maybe he doesn't personify the type of character he's looking for. I really cant find too many flaws in him other than he's kinda a wimp and isnt a defensive stalwart....

I have a prediction.
I predict that both Wedgie and Weirdoh will quietly shed a tear when 2 or more of these young upstarts break Peter Ihnacak's record.
Wedgie will petition to have permission to bring in and install a custom made, officially signed Peter Ihnacak Maple Leaf ACC seat cover for the remaining part of the season when the record is broken.
Wedgie will retire that unsoiled seat cover at the end of the regular season and will send it to Weirdoh to venerate. Weirdoh will once again be brought to tears by the memory of Peter I, as well as Wedgies endearing thoughtfulness which will cause Weirdoh to use the seat cover to dry his eyes - which smudges Peter's autograph.
Upon hearing this, Wedgie will prove to be inconsolable at first, then quite angry. He'll wait for the perfect moment to throw his returned and worthless Pe(illegible) seat cover at an innocent and very shocked Dave Keon.
Dave will not recover from the emotional attack and will head back to Florida - never to be seen at the ACC again.

Good year for a PO push.
Weak division & not the deepest of drafts.
See how the kids fair in the PO's & gaining PO experience is a good thing. - Nighthawk
im not sure if its a weak division, or if some good teams had a bad first half..
He's a hajaramasonn but isn't as well known bevause the caps haven't won anything.
He's a great defensive defensman. - Santo_44
We don't need those according to some on here.
Only guys that can 'move the puck'
(what's sad is that people translate my 'know how to play defense' into 'blocking shots and hitting' --> more importantly is the defensive positioning to prevent plays to be made, rebounds not falling to players in front of net, making shore passing and shooting lanes are not there... etc.)

Interestingly I was reading an article with had Zaitsev's comparable for pretty much every advanced stat. 90% of the time his comparable was Hjalmarsson

He can still move the puck. He gets literally 0 PP time. If they put him on the PP he could get 30 points easily.
But his job is to be stable for a guy like Carlson. Would be a perfect parter for Rielly or even Gardiner so they can be more free.

o i know, alzner would be an important upgrade on leafs' d.
i doubt they'll add him though; 29 at start of next season - if leafs add a significant salary to the team, i think it will be a younger player.

That three point lead Boston has with the Leafs holding six games in hand is pretty funny. This is where the old Leafs would lose those six games in hand. But a great man said history is gonna change, and that man's name was Marty McFly.
