I could easily see either team doing this especially since they get him for another year or they could in turn trade him in the offseason or next year's deadline to get assets back.

They solidified "(frank)ing Leafy" in game 1 when they blew a 4-0 lead and ruined Matthews' big night

Then blew 2/3/4 goal leads multiple times over the course of the first half. Like double digit amounts of times
