I think you and I may have been the only ones who didn't want Badd.
As far as Stamkos coming here that lasted one call from Snow to his agent and he politely said nice to hear from you Garth but don't call us we will call you.

Team needed a legit goal scorer, when Garf refused the Hall trade, right there signaled my end to his dumbness of assembling a roster, should have been fired after that...

Maybe, but I doubt it. He has another year to go on his contract, and my guess is the Isles will only look to trade guys who are becoming UFAs.... Chimera is still useful to the Isles in a bottom 6 role, and I doubt the Islanders could get much for him ..... maybe a 5th round pick?
- JohnScammo

Fair point but it's not like the Islanders are going to be contenders next year and I don't see Chimera as their future. Plenty of bottom 6 on this team just my opinion though. The kids have to start playing more especially when the team is eliminated officially from the po and Snow wraps his stubborn head around that fact.

3 years ago would have been perfect as far as I'm concerned,

Very hard to predict about next season. With a new coach, anything is possible, as demonstrated by the Penguins.

Not necessarily true bc the Pens star studded talent which was underachieving the isles only have JT and thats it.....

I think a return to the playoffs is hopefully not out of the question. It will be tough to make a lot of player moves this offseason with some of the bad contracts still having a year left. The biggest move might be a proven coach and Barzal and Beau getting a real shot.

I doubt the Isles would be ready for a Cup next year, but guys like Pulock, Barzal, and Beau will hopefully increase the talent with a real coach next year.

True a new coach would help but we are not the pens.
Let's see what they do with Chimera it will be interesting. Good points for either decision.

I think we're discussing two different things.......its not about Wang or UFA's not coming here. Its about 10 years of drafting and having nothing better to call up than journeyman Gionta.

In the early 90's the isles had an injury and called up some young phenom named Ziggy Palffy.......he never looked back. Where is that now? Its not about MDC or Ho Sang, as I feel both suck, which further backs my argument. The minor league team is sub par because the player are sub par. Im simply backing my point about Snow building sub standard teams, as seen by the soundtigers being a fringe playfoff team after 10 years.

Mdc is a good player with a great shot you don't see come around often. He's the guy that can finish a pass from jt or on the wing on pp and he plays a simple smart game. Ho sang plays all over doesn't shoot or play d so that may be a fair point if he can't learn to play a more complete game

To be fair Upstate, both guys aren't exactly tearing up the league down there.
Devon Toews on the other hand is a big surprise in his first year in the AHL

Fair point but I've seen Patrick eaves play here and said this guy is a first round pick? Then he gets called up and plays with talent and is 5 times better sometimes you need to be surrounded by better players to show your skill. That said Spezza was here during lockout and dominated although half that team was in Ottawa and ended up in cup finals vs the ducks

Also in the last thread I was telling kr that toews was a 4th rounder who in the game I saw looked great good first pass mobile played in all situations. You never know gr was the #5 pick and is in the Ahluwalia too and he's no all star and everyone had him as this beast who turned out to fizzle

Watched him play at Qunnapiac U the last couple of seasons and I always thought he was a very cerebral player. Smart with the puck, can skate and uses his body well even though he's not that big at 6 ft ?
4th rounders can turn out to be good even great NHLers.
Look at what round Henrik Lundquist was taken in.

I see EK is back on JVR and the Isles. This feels like about the 4th time he has been mentioned with the Isles.

I wasn't suggesting that the Isles matched the Pens in talent and could win a Cup. Only that there could be a major improvement with the right coach.

If JVR is so great, why would the top hockey minds in Toronto consider trading him? I sure would not bet on Snow winning that trade.

A different coach and some different personnel decisions. I would love to see real competition for ice time.

To be honest there is no reason why GArth can not make a trade for any player. We have the prospects players to do something big if we wanted to. PRoblem is Garth will not trade any of his babies away. It is time to let go and revamp a little

No, I don't want him doing anything. He had his chance. It's time for him to fade away.

I agree. He had his chance in the summer to trade for a wing before Free Agency and leave himself better options.

Isles have extra dmen that they could trade;

Hickey, Dehaan, Hamonic, Seidenberg

team would benefit keeping the likes of Pelech, Mayfield, Pulock bc of salary and can be placed in a similar role as the players I mentioned to trade off....
But until a new Gm is in place, I dont know if I trust Garf making anymore trades.....

Isles do have the d pieces to make a trade for a wing. They even have forward pieces to trade as well. It's too late for Garth to start doing his job. He needed to make it his business to add another offensive player after that Tampa series.

because they have to pay Marner, Mathews Nylander and bring in some dmen.
