Murray didn't have the best game but have to go right back to him next game no more flip flopping between the 2 it makes both of them bad. Our defense is really bad right now. I wonder if the old man could upgrade Daley into a better player? He has an expiring contract. Here's hoping OEL(yeah I know there's little chance) asks to be traded. That would lock that position down nicely. I'm trying to find a more realistic player to target I'm just working right now.

Funny someone mentioned oel based on the Larson - hall swap wouldn't a guy like oel cost mcdavid in a trade. Matthews would actually seem like fair value to me.

I could never imagine us coming up with enough for oel. Would maata sprong guentzel and a 1st even be enough?

Hornqvists hit was a little high but I think Oshie made it look a lot worse. Yes the caps havee players who have cheapshotted people, the pens do too. Its hockey ladies. Violent things happen.

Just an outrageous game, so many deflections to goals - wow!

Not sure I'd blame Murray for a lot of those goals especially the early ones where Caps players just shot unmarked - but I would blame Flower! Muzza did drop his guard on a couple though - or was that his glove?

Agree on both accounts, mainly Schultz though!

Since the turn of the century, aside from Letang, there have been 4 Penguin defensemen to turn in 40 point seasons:

Sergei Gonchar x 3
Ryan Whitney x 2
Richard Tarnstrom x 2
Matt Niskanen x 1

Schultz, barring injury, is simply putting up production from the blueline that needs to be re-signed sooner rather than later!

MAF has always been known to need a strong D-Squad in front of him which right now we dont have as well as having to play regularly to keep his momentum going.

Murray, the jury has been out on him and it appears his weaknesses are somewhat similar as of late, weak glove side, weak defense in front of him, and no real stability of being in net.

Fleury's best days are most likely behind him, but I would go off on either right now even though both have been sucking wind due to the product thats been in front of them. Dumo and Letang come back, a trade for another D-man happens hopefully prior to the deadline, then you can fully analyze this whole goalie debacle and move or keep who you have to.

The only the thats certain right now is that both are overcompensating at some points for the lack of d and they are back bad decisions at the wrong times and the opponent is recognizing and exploiting it.

Also, take nothing away from some of those goals, I give most goaltenders a pass when it comes to snipes by Ovie.

I've been critical of Murray's glove since it started getting exposed as the playoffs rolled on last year, and I really expected Mike Bales to work on it with him during the off-season, but it seems that the longer he goes, the more the book is coming out on him to just shoot glove side, because it's like the dude's so skinny that he can't lift the damn thing. He's gotten beat over that glove or in that "7-hole" area between the glove & pad in the butterfly more than I can count this year. Maybe it's because he's been sitting so deep in the net, but I don't know. Regardless, his glove work is getting progressively worse.

But enough pessimism. I'm loving that Sheary/Crosby pairing more and more. Little dude just knows how to play with Sid & it's awesome.

Plus, Geno is very very very quietly having an MVP like season & nobody is talking about it because Sid is very very very loudly doing the same thing. I love it.

Agree. The goalies will get better when the defense sorts it self out. Enough screwing around though. Put Hornqvist back with Crosby and reunite the Sheary-Crosby-Hornqvist line and give Malkin either Rust or Kessel, preferably Kessel. A third line that has Hagelin and Rust may not score too often but its going to be a mother (frank)er to play against and the forecheck will be insanity.

What an insane game last night, yikes. I havent had my phone in a week so I havent been able to get on here and see messages/leave messages while the games are on. I do see much more of the game though without the phone.

I think the Pens are actually missing that average but steady play of a Lovejoy like D-man for the bottom pairing & to function as a stop-gap when an injury occurs. They don't need to go after a high-level guy but just a solid/steady D-man to add depth & fill in when someone goes down. Plus, the whole top pairing is still injured. That doesn't exactly leave guys in the right roles.

And I have to say... I love watching 1988 break out in the middle of a hockey game. It's like the best time travel movie ever.

The prolonged delay in this happening is a head scratcher to me. Sheary- Crosby-Horny is the cup winning first line.
