And for the record, they've only drafted well (seemingly) for the past three drafts, two years, and those kids aren't in a position to help yet. Before that, they didn't draft well at all under Homer.

Dating back past the last 4 drafts to 2003

Giroux
Couturier
Gostisbehere
Van Reimsdyk
Patrick Maroon
Steve Downey
Jeff Carter
Mike Richards

and of course
Luca Sbisa
Mike Chaput

They draft ok but they don't keep a lot

2003

That was 14 drafts ago, you can list fifteen teams who've drafted better over that time. Even if you omit the past four and go with ten drafts back to 2003.

Canucks...

Ryan Kesler
Cory Schneider
Alex Edler
J. Hansen
Mike Brown
Mason Raymond
Michael Grabner
Ben Hutton

We can erase our whole draft history if we draft Hague this year

They really do . Another young team that has drafted well and can't crawl out of the basement .

That list keeps growing.

Waits for Lefty

- VANTEL

At least they are not the Avs and AZ. Along with Sabers what do they say or do? Another rebuild? When does the circle of reaching optimum core stop or start?

Like you said the other day it takes a superstar savior to win in the tank model. Lefty is right about quality picks. Yes the odds are they are higher up in the draft. But they can be found all over. The real crux for most quality players is the development into the line up. How the team is playing as in goals. Lefty is right on that part. Plus so are you on taking into account other factors like trades and free agents. Where the money is spent. Who leads and why.

Team building and success has multi-pronged factors that are in constant movement on and off the ice.

It's closer than it probably appears imo. In 2003 they got Carter and Richards, we got Kesler. In 2004 we got Schneider, Edler & Hansen.

If you take away the good players, higher-end players, it's pretty much a wash of plumbers, although the balance tips their way but only slightly.

Kesler, Schneider, Edler, Hansen vs Richards, Carter, Giroux, JVR

Should be better football games today. All of the teams are legit SB threats, whereas yesterday there was really only NE.

I wouldn't call him a sheep but he has a hard time changing things when in his mind it's going "real good", whether the stats back it up or not. We can look at our current PP or the Vey experiment on the PP in his first year. Or when he does change things it takes him too long to do it.
- Kaynine

You are right. That's when it works against WD. Though he's had success sticking to things too. Like the playing of Sven last season when he didn't show anything at first. Plus also Granlund now in top six worked out. Not sure how much management was behind it. But it worked. Maybe the choices of PP and personnel will as well. Though we can still ask the questions and wonder why not try this as fans, right?

If it's wrong and he' stays slow to react his goal of playoffs will slip away. Then the offseason focuses on how drastic should the changes be and how far should JB go into actively changing things.

Either way the team will stay the course in transition. Just the factors like, drafting, trades, coaching and free agents may accelerate more in one drirection or the other in the offseason mostly. We may get a few surprises by TDL or from players.
