historically, many defenseman over the years have retired by the time they were Girardi's age

not the same kind of player, but Dave Maloney was 29 when he retired

they just didn't give these long term guaranteed contracts in those days, and I just can't imagine Girardi walking away from the $$$

Every team needs players on their 4th line like Fast. Responsible as hell, can play any situation and costs peanuts. I guess I just don't get the fascination with Fast when the teams problems right now are defense and goaltending, not offense.

I think that's what ppl are confusing. I'm not worried about Fasts 3 goals. It's the fact he brings nothing to the table and I think his spot could be filled with someone who plays more physically which we are desperately lacking.

May cover this in blog today but wholeheartedly disagree with you. He is a perfect fourth line player, ocissiaonal can move up to the third but miscast elsewhere. Kills penalties extremely well, which adds to his value. Now if you wanted to argue that Marek Hrivik does some of the same things, I likely would agree. But the focus and hate on Fast in general and especially given the other issues on this team in my opinion is extremely misguided.

You're wrong, fake news. He doesn't play against the Crosby/Ov/McDavid etc which I've pointed out in the past. He's not going out against others teams top lines which is something we used to have our 4th line do.

Fast is a fourth liner. This team has more pressing issues than that -- i.e., what is wrong with our goaltender, and how can we make the defense better? Whether Fast sucks or not, really is a minor, minor issue in the grander scheme of things.

I agree. Except we all know Hank stinks right now and he's not going anywhere, and we all know we need a RHD but anytime u suggest one outside of Franson Stone or Shattenkirk you get jumped on as if those are the only 3 we could possibly target. Because Zibanejad was so widely rumored to be on the market/sarcasm

I didn't say AV utilized his line this way. But he has inserted Fast on lines at the end of a game protecting a lead. He has used Fast when the other team has pulled their goalie. There is a reason for that.
