It's not rocket science, when you skate instead of glide, the game becomes much easier to play. |

Prior to Peter Laviolette being fired, I believe he was asked to adjust his system to be more defensive. Holmgren took away the players that can work in an offensive system, JvR for Luke Schenn.
Since Laviolette's firing, we've brought in two coaches with similar systems that require fast and hard skating. So new GM Ron Hextall brings in RJ Umberger, Dale Weise and Boyd Gordon, while singling out Vinny Lecavalier, while Sean Couturier and Wayne Simmonds aren't great skaters themselves.
I think the Flyers should stick to what they know. A gritty team with a hard forcheck that can score. I personally think Laviolette flaws and all worked more towards team strengths.
With this said, strong first period so far. |

So far. Need to keep it up. Also, I've found that they need to get some bounces. On the 10 game win streak, they got more than their share, lately all the calls on penalties and bounces have gone against them. Work hard and smart and this should turn. |

The NHL is a speed league these days, good skaters throughout the lineup is a must. |

Solid 1st, need to keep this pace up. If you stop skating against this team, they'll kill you. This Caps team is fast, deep, big and skilled, and they seemed to have finally bought into Trotz's system 100%. If they stay healthy, they should be the odds on favorite to win the Cup |

You're not wrong with players we have drafted like Provorov and Konecny, we are trending in that direction but I don't think it's gonna be an easy fix if Coots is a serious building block player moving forward. |

I saw strong backchecks from forwards multiple times in that period. Who is this team? I thought I was watching a Flyers game. |

Agreed. Just shows you that if we move our feet that we can play with anyone. Wish we could have gotten a lead out of that period. Pp looked great without scoring. |

That's what pisses me off about this team so much. They have the ability to play solidly as we've seen. Just wildly inconsistent efforts |

I like the capitals. Right players for the right system. I don't think we have this. |

Coots can be an effective player if paired with fast wingers. There's a reason he's looked his best this season when he played with TK and Voracek. IMO, in today's NHL, 2 players on each forward line need to be strong skaters to succeed. |

Most teams in the NHL aren't as deep or talented as the Caps |

You know I support Schenn but even I dropped my jaw when he broke up an odd man rush with his backcheck. |
