I've been catching up on some video games.....now watching Black Mirror. I haven't watched Sherlock yet. I have a ton of movies I want to watch too. I'll get around to it eventually. Don't know why, but I'm not itching to watch it exactly. It's not like they'll have another season, if they even do, for a few years. I have time! - Mononoke
can you wait until im done with westworld please |

Tough call for Hextall on which one to keep. I don't think Mason deserves a raise and another deal of 4 years. I don't believe Neuvirth is true #1...should be interesting

that question really doesnt need to be answered yet. not a big deal. Unless there was an actual 4x6 brick wall in net right now, they are going to give up goals |

Both Hextall's interviews Saturday and Sunday (which are posted in the multimedia area on the Flyers site) make me think he's not making a major change here. As he said after the Washington game. You play a good road game for two periods and then a couple bad breaks and the wheels come off. It's all mental right now.
Lazy backchecks, poor decisions with the puck, and turnovers that lead to odd man rushes all coming from mental mistakes.
They can't practice at a team facility or with coaches until Friday. Do the captains get the players to rent a rink and hold team skates? Or do they all walk away hoping to reset their minds and come back Saturday ready to play the stretch run? Figure they really need 6 of 8 points before All Star break. |

FWIW, I'd wait and see how Stolarz does for the rest of the year. If he plays well, which I think he will, I re-sign Neuvirth to a 2 year deal and let him compete with the kid for the #1 job. I like Mase, but not enough to commit to him long term. He's just too inconsistent and I'm starting to question his mental toughness as well |

What if you can sign Mason to a short term deal?

Perhaps. A lot depends on how well he plays the rest of the season and how much $$ he'll be asking for. Mase reminds me a lot of Doug Favell, when he's hot he's lights out, but when he goes cold he's awful. I want a #1 goalie who is more consistent over the course of the season. |

And the best is they can't even practice this week. I'm expecting much better results against the Devils on Saturday.

I dont really think that is true at all. This season he has been awful, but he has not had many cold streaks during his flyers career. Certainly not any more than most other goalies out there. The quality of chances they are giving up is just absurd right now. It was obvious this weekend when it didn't matter who was in goal. |

I can see the need for practicing, but at the same time, it isn't like these guys don't know what they are supposed to do. They've almost all done it before so maybe some off time will be good. Certainly can't be worse haha |

What Provorov brings to the team is obvious, but he has has a handful of unfortunate mishaps.. I know hes young but maybe it isn't the best idea to have him leading the team in ice time |

Yep.
Fact: Both Mason and Neuvirth are good goalies. Each is good enough to be part of a team that goes far in the playoffs. Neither is elite, nor will they be. Both will steal a game here and there and both will lose a game or two (or a few more than that) here and there. That's how it goes. Most teams are in that boat. Neither was the reason for the two losses this weekend. Very few teams have elite goalies. So what needs to be done is to make the rest of the team better.* It's not an easy thing do to and will take some more time to get a better player mix through trades and maturation of younger players.
* first person to say the answer is to "get CV out of the lineup" gets a kick in the pucks |

I'd take the time off to clear their heads and come back fresh. The Leafs had 2 similar brutal losses before their 5 day break and have responded with 2 strong victories. Leaf nation is running wild. |

to me ....he has two months to show he deserves that.....Because as of today, I'm not sure he is any kind of answer for the future.
