Unfortunately, not a very good job by your Islanders tonight. 7 goals! - Ihatebrianburke
No, no, they did a good job. Positioning for first overall pick.
Zippy is a moron and doesn't know how to utilize the players talent. I'm glad to see the Oilers doing well.

Still Hatin' eh? Thats almost as cool as Iggy's PC hate. - Larsson_fan
MacT stuck his foot in his mouth too much. He announced that he would make bold moves and was then too scared to pull the trigger on anything that would change the franchise. Also, proclaiming Justin Schultz to one day win the norris didn't do himself any favours either. All in all he didn't do a terrible job, but running his mouth too much, he made himself look incompetent.

Also the Eakins hiring and subsequently slow firing.
Let's have a rookie GM hire a rookie NHL coach to coach a team full of rookies. That will go well.

I would agree with that too...but in his defence look who he replaced. Steve " were gonna continue to analyze, deliberate, consider our options, deliberate a little more, go for coffee" Tambellini. Tambo said nothing of substance ever, Mac T said way too much. Just rookie errors, but I think MacT is a smart hockey man, and will probably be GM of this team again in a few years after an apprenticeship with PC.

I too think MacT is a very smart hockey man, but I don't see Chiarelli going anywhere. Even if he did, I doubt Nicholson would hire MacT to run the team. It is odd though that MacT remains with the team to this day.

Mac T.
The Good:
Moved Horcoffs barf contract.
Moved Smid and his poop contract.
showed his balls drafting all those Russians with late round picks.
Showed well in the 1st round by having to choose rather than go for the automatic consensus 1st overall.
Showed willingness ( in most cases) to address immediate needs in goal and defence.
Stayed his hand in regards to his young assets.
Didnt pay Jeff Petry what the Habs did.
Removed or allowed to expire every Oiler that needed to go save Ference.
The Bad
Gave up on what would become a top 5 goalie in DD.
Overestimated and overpaid the stop gap defenders we badly needed.
Failed to start the season with more than 2 NHL centers.
Failed to extend Petry a year before free agency.
Offered a PTO to that ineligible russian kid
Ugly
Dallas Eakins.
So overall it was pretty 50/50 to me. He wasnt great, but he is smart enough to i prove over time, with proper mentoring. Oilers fans might think hes an idiot, but actual hockey people in the NHL respect him. Hes also extremely well connected from his playing days.he'll be a GM again.

No it isnt. Theres a rather large number of Oilers fans who are sick of the old boys club, and dont feel the club owes them anything, in fact alot of those fans who dont appreciate the contributions of those guys post on here regularly. There is one fan though, who doesnt feel that way, and trust me, he's more important that any of us.
The coaching move turned out horribly for him, but what GM doesn't want to bring in his own coach when he's hired? - Ihatebrianburke
Agreed. Eakins being horrible and the marginal spike in the previous years standings iinflated Krugers value among Oilers fans as well. We have the right guy now.

Yeah, I wont dispute that. He was mediocre at best in his 18 month stint. I do think hes smart enough, but like anyone else, he needs training and mentorship.

He has the potential to be a good GM... I just don't think it will be in Edmonton.

If he gets an opportunity elsewhere, sure..but he will be in the Oilers organization for as long as he wants, I'm guessing. People can say Bob this and Nicholson that till the cows come home...but Katz has the final say and he loves those guys.
