Can someone please explain the difference between datsyuk and kovalchuk nhl retirements re salary cap implications? Arizona has full datsyuk's full salary on their caproll (to reach cap minimum?) but nj only got a yearly 250k until 2025?
I must miss somethinh here?

Kovi was on a cap circumventing contact. The current caphit is the penalty from that; otherwise there would have no cap consequences to his retirement.
