The (frank)ed up thing is....I was a huge advocate to get Stamkos. So glad it didn't happen (hindsight is 20/20).
Now I don't even want Tavares. Well....unless something changes in terms of injuries and what not. Especially with Kadri on that bargain contract. - systemtool
I'd agree. As crazy as it is to say this, I don't want Tavares. I want this to be Matthews', Marner's, Rielly's, Kadri's (especially because of the poop he's gone through while here) and Nylander's team

my brother in law - who at the time was in a bike gang (this was a long time ago)... told me there's two types of people you never mess with.... never scrap with a guy who's with his wife or girlfriend OR the quiet guy who is calmly ignoring the nonsense going on around him. - BorjeFan4Ever

Too bad Stamkos is always hurt. Also I think it would have disrupted the chemistry.
The cap hit would have haunted us for years to come. When he gets injured again there will be lots of talk about early retirement. - Arctic_AARDVARK
Blind luck I guess, I really wanted him here.
I thought playoffs for sure if they sign him, turns out playoffs aren't beyond the realm of possibilities anyway.

getting Stamkos would have been the greatest insurance policy and insulation for Matthews possible.
all the hype around Stamkos would have allowed Matthews to be more under the radar... in the event Matthews would have started slowly.
still would have been a good thing... and because Uncle Lou has that lovely developed water front resort on Robidas Island... Stamkos' rehabs and CAP hit would have been manageable ...
I was hoping for Burns more than Stamkos... so I was disappointed that he signed again with the Sharks. Although, in hind site its unlikely that Lou would have pursued him given his amount of facial hair.
Seriously though - the coaching staff needs some serious love. A team with what 8-9 rookies, a new to the team starting goalie and the same team that finished last in the league the previous year.

The last time the Leafs lost 2 in a row there were a couple guys in here saying there was never any chance of playoffs.. probably the same people who adamantly thought Marner should spend another year in the O and gain "world juniors experience" or that Zaitsev is a 4-5 Dman at best.

Good.. in 2-3 years Stamkos will be a part of the Nash/Staal project.. still good players but not considered top tier.. Staal is kinda rebounding tho.

There's no doubt that they are a better than average team, I was one that thought that management would do everything possible to make the playoffs in their 100th year.
Turns out they already did it.
Still think acouple of 4,5 defenseman would go a long way.
But, no trading big pieces for crap like that.

Yeah Hunlak need to go..
Our D prospect depth isn't great.. what's the story on Dermott and Neilsen? Were they traded? I hear nothing about them anymore.
