I'm confused because the 90's had some of the highest scoring ever.
I don't think Keith and Seabrook would be "just another pairing" without those 3, either. Certainly, Crawford would be a below average goalie, though.
I value D over F simply because a solid D can make a weak goalie look great and ultimately, that guy stops the pucks. I don't think the "score more than the other guys" approach will win too many Stanley Cups unless you have Crosby or McDavid type of players. Idk. - BeadyEyedDouche
Good defense (new jersey devil teams) won in the league that's what I meant about the 90's...A good defense is all you needed then because of the high scoring. Teams scored a lot more then so being able to stop them is what won games. Now since scoring is so low you need high powered offense to win.
Offensive zone pressure for teams like Chicago is what makes them so good sure having Keith and Seabrook able to get out of their end helps a ton but without having someone like Kane and company to give the puck to they wouldn't be nearly as effective. |

I was thinking something similar today.
Our GM likes to overpay for good players and liquidated all of our actual trade-bait in 2 trades that still have a lot of us scratching our heads.
Winnipeg and Los Angeles. We have Bogozian, Kane, Fasching and Deslauriers to show for those trades. A career 20-goal scorer, the dumbest guy currently playing hockey, the second dumbest guy currently playing hockey and a career AHL'er.
Also, I know we've beaten this dead horse to oblivion, but a 1st for Lehner, I don't care if it was 21st overall, was nothing short of moronic. - BeadyEyedDouche
It' seriously unreal to me.

That's got a lot to do with it. If they retained half his celery, I'd consider it but they aren't getting more than Carrier +. |

I suppose so. But for every Chicago and Pittsburgh you have Boston and LA. Who are not high-powered scoring teams, who have great goaltending and a solid D core, at least when they won their cups.

I didn't like Myers, but in all honesty, if Winnipeg wanted more than Meyers for Bogo and Kane, I would have told them nah, bro.
Kane and Bogo could easily have been replaced by free-agency signings, then Myers could have been flipped almost straight-up for O'Reilly, and we would still have had Lemeuix, Armia, Grigorenko, Zadorov as trade assets.
That first for Lehner? Does Trouba or Fowler sound good to you? It would have taken more than the 1st but why we weren't trying for one of them to begin with is another thing I question about Murray's decision making.
A few of us seem to agree, he severely overvalues players that give him a hard-on and it's led to a few teams fleecing us in trades. |

LA had Carter, Richards, Brown, Kopitar going at a very very high paced point wise during their cups (in the playoffs)
Boston was 7th in the league in goals scored in the regular season during their Cup season |

I'm seriously amazed that this team is bottom 5, and doesn't have the assets to get some of the big names that are available.
Amazed. - sbroads24
We spent the assets we had available on some the big names that was out there. You got to pay up for a guy like Bogosian. |

IMO, Myers straight up for Kane would have made total sense.
Struggling D man who was ROTY, for a struggling locker room cancer who scored 30 goals once.
And yes, I agree, those other firsts, get our defense in order through trade. |

Hey everyone don't feel bad. Colorado is a team with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall pick on it, and they are on pace for a 54 pt season. Come to think of it... I sort of remember another team who had a 54 pt season a few years back, but they were such a disgrace to the league I can't even remember their name. |
