Welp, that for the first series of line changes. When will we see Dlo on the top line, Kane playing with Eichel, and Moulson? ... 2nd series of line changes.
For the life of me, I can't understand why the Backup Goalie isn't between Eichel and ROR on the top line...such a waste.

They still need to call up a center unless Reinhart goes back to the pivot...

COR maybe? Carrier and Delo are not centers!

Hes looked really good at centre, i dont understand why they dont keep him there.

Its time for ROR on Jacks wing, i thought this was the plan at the beginning anyways.

I am going to the Sabres/Leafs game with 3 Leaf buddies on Tuesday. Proudly wearing my #23 jersey. I have been following the Sabres for 40 years - no point in stopping now. Always cheering for a "W". No tanking for me but I do hope Murray trades away at the deadline to maximize assets. This is just good business.

Go Sabres Go.

ROR was acquired to be the top C until Jack is ready to assume that role...thereby sheltering Eichel during his development. Jack is far from developed...he is somewhat lackadaisical with the puck with blind passes and throw ins to wasted areas of the O-zone, while his Defensive play is very immature. He's a very exciting player with an incomplete game...needing more time to round it out.

Keep both playing center.

All of this is true, however even at 75% and immature defensively hes still unquestionably the #1 guy. ROR can help him out on his wing too.

1 in the package to get ror

- homiedclown

Maybe true with ROR being able to help on the wing.
However, I think of greater value is having the Sabres be strong down the center position...ROR, Eichel, Reinhart, Larson/Girgenson. I think the true issue is we have 3 (ROR, Eichel, Okposo) maybe 4 of our top 6 in place depending on where you prefer Rienhart to play C or RW ( makes him top 6).

I prefer strength down the Center and roll 3 scoring line, hence why I think Reino is my 3C. If we slot Nylander as a future 1 or 2 LW, then we still need the other LW and another RW for our top 6. I'm not conveniced Bailey or Baptiste is a top 6 guy, but could be on that 3rd line with Reinhart.

Add in a 2D to ride with Risto ...

Net/net - GM has some work to do...this team is about 60 - 70% built

We traded the 2nd rd pick acquired in the Matt Moulson trade to Minnesota for Gorges. Montreal moved that pick to Chicago and picked Chad Krys. The 2 2nds he traded to LA that were picked will never see the NHL.

For more clarity

Nylander Eichel ?
? ROR Okposo
Baptiste Reinhart Bailey
Carrier Asplund ?

Correct. Tying in some work with the Sabres game. I grew up in the Toronto area but have always hated the Leafs. Proudly a Sabres/Bills fan my entire life. My Dad's side of the family is from western NY.

Yah.
Since March of 2014, GMTM has traded away 3 2's ...1 for Josh Gorges, 2 - in the trade of McNabb for Fashing and Dlo.

Using the 1 of 4 success rate of 2nds the jury is still out....since McNabb needs to be factored in and we are waiting on Fashing. As it stands now, He lost that deal with LA when McNabb is included ... unless Fashing hits and becomes a regular NHLer, the it can be viewed as McNabb for Fashing and 2 nds for Dlo..

Fill in those blanks and I think you have a playoff team. The problem is all of the deadweight (contracts and performance) who will likely still be on the Sabres after this year - Gorges, Ennis, Moulson. Where do they slot in because GMTM isn't sending them to Rochester. Hopefully Vegas takes one of them. Also, as much as I like Kare's recent performance, I would be packaging him up to get me a Top 2 D or Top 6 winger. Lastly, I agree with the having Jack, ROR and Rhino as our 3 centers. That's deep and we should be able to roll 3 solid lines.

I agree. I was merely pointing to the picks in that deal as Gerbe wants to claim they are important with respect to the trade. In my view that trade comes down to Fasching for McNabb. I don't like the trade either. McNabb was coming into his own as an NHL d man when he was traded and he would look good in our top 4 right now. Fasching has nice upside but we just haven't seen it yet.

Overreact much?

Fleecing us in trades? Kane, had he been healthy, is on pace for almost 30 goals. 30 goals, in this day and age, is more like 40-45 in the 80's. How many do those slugs on Winnipeg have, COLLECTIVELY? 8? 9? Collectively. Armia looks more like the career AHLer you describe earlier.

And you know for a fact that all these other gm's go for these scenarios you say would have definitely happened? It's just that easy to make trades and sign free agents, in a league where, a lot of times, trades have to be $ in for $ out, and where most players worth a sh!t don't ever hit free agency. Yeah, Sounds easy to me.

You guys whine and cry that Regier never pulled the trigger, never took a chance, never had any balls. Now we actually have a GM that does/has all these, and he's terrible.

I can't wait until they rattle off 3 in a row, and it'll be rainbows and unicorns again.

1st bold: Not over-reacting 2 years later, seeing the trade for what it is. Murray got fleeced, sorry. He gave up way too much for 2 guys who have been injury prone their entire careers thus far.

2nd bold: For clarity's sake, the "career 20 goal scorer" I mentioned was KANE. The career AHL'er is Fasching. And whether Kane hits 30 this year, healthy or not, his career average goals per season hoovers around 20, hence, he can be labelled as a career 20 goal scorer, which he is. Nothing wrong with that but I guess you looked at that as a criticism of him. We did overpay, though.

3rd bold: No, I was more saying that if those teams I questioned the trades to had asked for what they asked for, I would have laughed in their faces and gone elsewhere. Literally the ONLY player in those trades who was not going to be here had those trades not happened was Stafford, and I would have driven him to Winnipeg for free.

4th bold: Regier is in the past. Our problem with GMTM is that he has blown his load in a couple of trades but sat on his hands with a couple others. He's been wildly inconsistent with his trades and in the things he says.

1st bold again: Pretty much you say I over-reacted to a 2 year old trade but then proceeded to over-react to my post.

Just do all his trades in reverse and imagine any team accepting them

Which team is giving us a 1st rounder for Lehner?

Will Gorges fetch a 2nd?

It's a fun exercise

Yup, sorry if it sounded like I was taking issue with you...nope.
There are false narratives presented by some on this board ... that was what I was reacting to...that Murray has wasted a boatload of 2nds ... where?

The 2014 draft was Devines essentially...I'm sure Murray had some input into it as well...he wasn't an innocent bystander, but Devine had a ton of influence.
2015 2nd is Guhle, and 4th was Borgen, they didn't have a 3rd. guhle looks like a steal.
2016 looks strong with Asplund, Pu in addition to Nylander.

So I agree, the key to that LA deal is Fashing...we shall see.

Well, hopefully one of those 3 or like Bogo will be going to Vegas.
I pray, but am not counting on Ennis...if he is serviceable that address one of the "?'s".
I forgot to add back Foligno and Girgensons...both of which would be serious upgrades to the 4th line I proposed and would sole for another one of the "?'s"s.

Then that leaves Carrier to be packaged as you suggest, not sure with whom though...Kane?

Right, and literally every other team would have laughed at us if that's what we expected in return for those players, even 4 years ago when Gorges looked competent on the Candiens and Lehner was coming off a Calder Cup winning team where he won the AHL Playoff MVP but hadn't shown poop-all previously nor afterward.
