Well, since draft pick success depends on round, as follows:
1st round =65%.
2nd round = 25%
3rd round = 12%
It would follow that GMTM should be allowed to use 4 2nds to find 1 NHL caliber player. If his hit rate through trades using 2nds is less than that, one could say he would generally be better to use the pick himself rather than trade it.
Similarity, he could use 8 3rds to find 1 NHLer.
Using that data driven logic, rather than irrational emotional reaction, I think the jury is still out.
Also, using a 3rd to secure the rights to negotiate with Vessey, a top 6 player not a scrub 4th line grinder is actually pure genius and well worth the risk...in fact he should do that about 12 times before the break-even point.
But I digress...facts! - IonSabres
Good post Ion. Murray likes to gamble at times to get the players he wants. He's not afraid to do what he thinks is right to move the organization, in Doug Whaley's words 'move forward' lol.
Murray's trades haven't worked up to this point but if we trade some of the acquired players (Bogo, Gorges, Fasching), let's see how that trade tree grows.
In the case of the 2 2nds we traded to LA, both of those guys (Lintuemi and Cernak) will never see the NHL. Those were the Robyn Regher 2nd rd picks we got.

Half way point of the season....it would really shake my confidence in him if GMTM was not considering a coaching change...
Do we have the elite talent to be competing with the Pittsburghs and the Washingtons? No.
Do we have enough talent to be in contention for a playoff spot? Yes.
Regardless of your evaluation of the talent level of this team...Jack, Kane, ROR, Rhino, Risto, and Okposo by themselves should have this team challenging for a playoff spot. |

Wow, we just have a rash of "new" people lately. That many people getting banned lately?
I kind of feel like you're setting me up with that, making me think you're an optimist, and then WHAM! You go all "LAST PLACE!!!" on us. - Wetbandit1
I actually am new! Been reading you guys for awhile though.
I generally tend to be an optimist, it's really all that we have as Buffalo sports fans. I don't have super high expectations this season. I just want us to do better, and start showing progress. And I think, at times, they have.
I like the core players we have on this team. I look forward to seeing what GMTM can add to make it better. |

Except thats not how it works. You can't expect those guys to take over every single game, thats where depth comes in.
Wanna know why the leafs are so far ahead? It's because their second pair isnt a (frank)ing eyesore. And their ahl guys like connor brown are producing. |

I doubt Murray fires Bylduct in season. If things really go south in the second half, one has to wonder what Murray does with him after that. My guess is he gets another season (I know it sucks) to right the wrongs. |

Bills have hired 5 coaches. Frazier (DC), Crossman (retained as special teams coach), Juan Castillo (OL), Bob Babich (LB) and the most intriguing selection for DL coach is Mike Waufle (DL). He was with the Rams since 2012 and recorded 217 sacks, third most in the league. He is praised throughout the league as one of the best DL coaches and is Hornell, NY native and former marine. |

QB's Childress has worked with over the years:
1) McNabb
2) Tarvaris Jackson
3) Gus Frerotte
4) Favre
5) Brandon Weeden
6) Alex Smith
QB's Olson's worked with:
- Garcia
- Kordell Stewart
- Joey Harrington
- Bulger
- Josh Freeman
- Henne
- Gabbert
- Pryor
- Carr
- Bortles

The one feather in Olson's QB cap is having developed/working with Brees at Purdue. Thanks to @MrJeffHunter for that reminder. #Bills

I would think the OC will be hired next week. Reading the tweets Childress likes the west coast offense and if hired maybe Tyrod comes back. At least that is Gelber's speculation.

A top 5 defense this year and Buffalo would have ended up losing to New England yesterday...
I think the personnel on the Bills are meant for a 4-3 anyway, I like the hire so far.
Keep Tyrod, let McCoy be McCoy, pray that Watkins is 100% to start the season, get Alshon Jefferies, and use Charles Clay...
Next years schedule is so difficult on paper though. |

Babich, Waufle and Frazier are great hires for the defense. Get a real good secondary coach and the defense could be vastly improved. If we hire Childress, and with a west coast style and the running of Shady and Gilleslee, things might be looking up. Two former HC (Childress? and Frazier) can only help McDermott. |

Welp, that for the first series of line changes. When will we see Dlo on the top line, Kane playing with Eichel, and Moulson? ... 2nd series of line changes.
For the life of me, I can't understand why the Backup Goalie isn't between Eichel and ROR on the top line...such a waste. |
