I am of the beleif that the past is entirely arbitrary in value.

Lets discuss current matters: Early enough to say Tkachuk was a better pick than Puljujarvi?

- fry

This is dumb. It is WAY too early to discuss this- Tkachuk is having a monster of a year and is already one of our best players, but to say he's already a better pick than Puuj is stupid. In a few years we can discuss this. Still sour over last night.Suck my Richard Oilers

Never said he was a total bust. I just think he's a Finnish Lawson Crouse. Not top five material.

Based on what? His rookie season or your extensive scouting experience and talent evaluation expertise?

Hah you're just rearing to get to the personal attacks.

Don't think his ceiling is that high. Watched a lot of his play during his draft year and was hoping we wouldn't draft him. Have had that opinion since before the Oil drafted him.

WJHC was a great tourni for him, but his season started sputtering soon after and eventually he got injured. He rode the WJHC hype into the draft, but I wasn't a fan of the latter half of his season at all.

Is it that hard to imagine he might be a bust? I called Yak a bust when he was in his rookie season and Im sure Jero threw some personal attacks at that too.

Im calling bullpoop. You havent seen (frank) all for his games Karpat overseas after the WJHC. He really sputtered in the playoffs with 9 points in 10 games playing against veteran men too?

Didn't see much of the playoffs, but I definitely went out of my way to stream some of his, Matthews, and Laine's games during the season.

That's pretty solid production. He was playing injured during the series that they got eliminated by Laine's team. Can't say much about that series as I only saw highlights of Laine scoring the winner.

Do Oilers fans really need it explained to them why what the players currently playing for the Oilers have done over the past few years is more pertinent than what a group of players who have all been retired for over a decade did 30 years ago? It's not arbitrary at all.

Tkachuk was the better pick. Pulju will be a fine Jesse Joensuu type; just not a great pick at #4.

So just watched the game.

Flames actually managed to shut down McD for the most part. Much better than the first two games.

Elliot played great. He should get the next start. 3 posts hurts but the hockey gods work in m.

Seems like a feel out game for both teams. Wish it would be the last 2 games of the season that we played a back to back and not the first 2.

Maybe, but they would have been better games. Never pegged you as the type to start assuring wins!

Im not..its just you guys that bring it out of me. You lose 3 of 3 against the Oilers and yet you still walk away convinced you have the better team. Its insanity really, and makes my job consulting you (frank)s much harder. Ah well...if it were easy, everyone would do it.

why?

what does the 2012 season have to do with this iteration of the oilers and its success thus far?
or the 2007 oilers (the arbitrary line -decade, mentioned at the start of this funny little debate)

how do the players on those teams that are no longer on the squad have more relevance to the 2017 oilers than a guy that retired over a decade ago?

ethan moreau or jesse joensuu somehow have more bearing on this squad than say ken linesmen does? how so?

Two wins and a skills competition last night. Call me a throw back but I wouldn't go around bragging that you won last night.
