Here's the thing. If Cam Talbot went down to injury for any length of time, what do you think would happen. They have no other option but to play the Monster, Broissoit is sucking in the AHL this year and Edmonton has no decent goalie prospects in the farm system. For me, Talbot is the corner stone in Oil town. No Talbot, no playoffs for Edmonton.
- Flamin_Irishmin

100% agree with that! If mcdavid goes down that's bad. But if talbot goes down that would be devistating

I think two years and roles might reverse. Oilers will have a better D core and flames will have potentially more firepower or balanced scoring. Obviously no one on the flames will come close to mcdavid but a group of their four young guys plus backlund will b solid
- mf1313

all kinda depends on nurse. (benning looks like he could be the real deal too)

and up front, ill also say the balance might rest on tkachuk vs puju. (right now its not really close to be fair in MT's direction)
assuming connor doesnt get eve better of course as hes only 19. that could be serious trouble for everyone

stoked for the game tonight

How many fanbases can say they have had comparable players to Gretzky and mcdavid ? Even messier ...

The oilers have been awful for the last ten years so yeah recently they have had it worse than most fanbases and been bombarded with first overall and lotto draft beaking ...but as a franchise they have had it better than most in the league long term

The oilers franchise may have deserved some positives ...but I don't buy that they deserved mcdavid ...jets fans had their best teams ever go head to head against the Gretzky era, then had their team moved to a (frank)ing desert ...Canucks fans have never won a cup and have had game 7 heart break in the finals twice ...Sabres fans have never won a cup and lost in the finals from the worst non call ever.

Those fan bases have had it much tougher than the oilers

oh i certainly didnt mean "deserve" mcdavid. theres no deserve. the balls fall where they do and u get who u get.
the oilers had some misses in yaks (even nuge a little) and got lucky with leon and connor.
on the flip side, no one felt bad about our misses, so they can go eff themselves when they chirp we shouldnt have got connor etc. its funny that no one actually cared (they actually reveled in calling bust etc) until we got mcjesus.

either way, i actually just meant i dont think oiler fans should have to be quiet case theye been so bad for the last decade. especially since as u stated weve endured so much beaking. we have a right to be stoked on the middling squad we have.

on a side note, just for argument sake, those dynasty years were before my time. i wasnt even old enough to be a real fan till the middle of the 90's, so ive pretty much only know mediocre to bad teams minus a few blips here and there.
its nice to talk about gretz and messier etc, but those arent the guys i identify with really.
more like weight, smyth, hall etc

I get what your saying .. and in your case you probably do deserve him then ...I guess what some don't think about is when your team is terrible for so long you don't get to chirp much so when you finally do some go overboard

One thing I absolutely hate is the argument that fans of bad teams are dumb and don't know what good players are or how a good rebuild should go etc ....but fans of cup winning teams are (frank)ing geniuses.

so much this

painful

"youre an oiler fan, you wouldnt know what a good dman looks like!!"

yeah, cause the random kings fan who happens to cheer for the team drew doughty plays for must be a genius thriugh sheer luck and osmosis

and no doubt about the going overboard. its hurts my eyes when i see the overzealous ones post about our greatness. we went from bottom of the barrel to middling. be happy about it sure. but stay realistic.

Come on ladies, both teams have been playing great hockey and are both have a load of young talent. Let's hope the flames remember the spanking the Oilers gave us the first 2 games and come out guns a blazing. Tkachuk is a monster and that line needs to come out firing (which they have been), Gaudreau Needs to get on the board tonight. Good luck boys

I remember when Alberta was Death Valley for all visiting teams and the battle of Alberta meant something! Look forward to many years of kicking each other's ass! But tonight the Oilers fall

but wait, why does the past matter so much?

if oiler fans dont get to chirp about the dynasty years (which ill admit is a boring and a weak retort) then i dont see how past failures (albeit more recent) are any more relevant really.

30 years is uncool to point towards, but 10 is totally ok? so wheres the arbitrary line youve decided on so that we can be sure to follow those parameters next time...

end of the day, if theres a fanbase that deserves some positives and to feel good about their team, its the oilers

So if the win doesn't happen what will the excuse be for falling out of WC spot?

Missed the game. Saw the highlights. Looked exciting. So we are now 8-3 against the oil in the last 11 games.

That record is helped by the fact that the Oil finished 29th last year.

Oh wait, no it wasn't because discussing the past is arbitrary. Last year is as relevant as thirty years ago according to some on here.

Last night's game is as relevant as an early December game in 1983. No real point in discussing.

Love how oilers fans love to talk big now, like they haven't been the worst franchise in the sport for the last decade...
- cmpdave

Ok, well lets not forget Calgary has pretty much shared a basement suite with Edmonton in that time ( they had the big bedroom, I guess) save for one flukey season.

Yes weve been the worsr franchise in sports for a decade....but really, it doesnt matter today anymore than our 5 , count them, 5 Stanley Cups do. The fact of the matter is, we took 6 points from a so far inferior team this season. If you miss the playoffs by a hair, you can look to the series in Edmonton as a missed opportunity.

Nobody said you had to like it.
