What a stupid nattative that two players leaving changed the entire team's identity. Backes was a big part of the Blues and besides the play offs Brouwer was good in maybe twenty to twenty-five games in the regular season and the rest he was a liability and was one in the play offs as well. But you know when you tell a story and start believing in it you forget what else happened or was said.

Allen has been terrible. He has seemingly lost his confidence. When he made tha save on Chara the other night I was hopeful. But he has been giving up weak goals and as we have talked about in the past that crushes a team. Especially when you factor in the timing of te goals against and te quality. Have there been screens? Yes. Bad deflections yes. The end boards flukey goal was still his fault because of how he came back into the net and knowing how lively those boards are. But all of these things other goalies face as well.

Now there have been defensive break downs that lead to glorious chances aganst. Some of this is because once ou are down one or two to nothing you start changing the way you play in order to try and score. If he stops the easy ones early then you would see less cheating in the defensive zone.

The reason this team lacks an identity is because they are confused. Perhaps it is the coach in waiting. Perhaps it is that Hitch had already worn thin on the players.

But look at the team. They are worried about the refs and fairness in the game right now. That is a sign of a team that is lost and down on themselves. You could see players on the bench getting angry and trying to pump each other up last game.

This means and you can see it, that the team is lacking trust. From the Shattenkrik issue to players sitting that have earned ice time, to a coach in waiting and a young goalie struggling. This is te crucible of how this team will ultimately define itself and find or lose itself.

I know that's the narrative a lot of folks jump on but has there been a Blues goalie that fans criticized unfairly when it was all said and done?

(Hoping you'll say Jaro Halak)

The team as a whole is playing poorly, that's not in dispute. But Elliot was dealt to give Allen the job cut and dried and he has had a very poor half season. He doesn't appear to be injured, and he's extremely athletic, we've seen that from him in the past.

So his troubles are totally and completely resting between his ears.

If he were hot, the team in front of him would be better and more confident whereas the team could play extremely well in front of him and he would still (and does) give up bad goals.

The Blues are still a very solid team. It's hard to compete with a sub .900 save percentage.

Elliott?

Elliott wasn't dealt to give Allen the job. Elliott wanted to be the starter. The Blues rightfully said nope. They were happy giving them both time this year and they both played well enough to play regularly based on last year.

Allen was given his deal after Elliott requested a trade, and was then traded. At that point, the Blues decided they wanted to lock up Allen long term, which was the right call at the time.
