It makes sense to move the team close... Or closer than Utica anyway...

This weekend might have been the last straw

You don't need to be 6 foot 7 + to be a good net front presence... Look at Thomas Holmstrom. The guy made a living as an NHL hockey player strictly because he was one of the best at providing a screen and whacking at loose puck for the dirtiest goals. I bet you no one in the league holds more "ugly/dirty" goals than Holmstrom. Louie Eriksson is actually half decent at providing a screen, he should be put on PP1 instead of using Sutter in the high slot.
- Codes1087

no you dont have to be 6'7+ and yes Holmstrom was a nightmare in front of the net. He was always falling on goalies. Funny it exactly who I was thinking of when I mentioned falling on the goalie.

But we see how effective Jumbo Joe, chara and pronger were there and its an obvious choice to try tree there. Might just be the start of something amazing for vancouver.

I truly hope we have a new head coach next year. It will not make us a cup team, but We will have some more young players making the jump next year and I don't want WD to ruin their careers because he wants a useless vet to play instead.

I have absolutely no issues with how Willy D deployed Horvat in his rookie year. Look at how his 10 minutes a night on the 4th line with scrubs eventually turned him into the player he is today.

Part 2: Who do you think will be joining the Canucks next year as rookies? Apart from Boeser (if and when he signs), or maybe Pedan (after perhaps Sbisa is maybe claimed), I see no one in the pipeline who will be ready to go. Virtanen has not shown much in his stint at Utica.

Pronger was never good. The guy would take his team off the power play by using his hand as a screen lol. Chara is hit and miss on the PP, there is a reason he isn't the net front presence on every PP. Joe Thornton is a forward, so it makes more sense for him. I see what you are saying, and it would be a decent experiment, but I would like to see LE back on PP1 and parking his ass right in front of the goalie.

I think the arena lease ends after 2018. City agreement might be different. If they don't have an arena to play in the city agreement is void.

They mentioned either Abby Surrey or Vancouver at Renfrrew

Abby makes a lot of sense. I dont think surrey has an arena, not that Ive ever seen. Langley has an event center. Abby is the logical choice. Depends though, are there hot dogs in abby?

We are all fans that want to see our team win, we just also understand that we need better draft position so we are not upset when they lose. Vantel said it best. If Bo/Sven and co are driving the wins then that is awesome. If it the Sedins driving the wins then it doesn't help our future a lot.
- Retinalz

Correct why the issue with WD and his choices for deployment and use of players. The trust and comfort he places on some out of loyalty or whatever notion he sees is frustrating as well. We are getting someone useful as JB comfirms for this draft as there are no players to salivate over really; plus the dam lotto. So I don't hold stock in the draft position much right now either.

Example, last season there were superstars this team tanked into 3rd spot. It lost the lotto 3 times on position. But let's say it had chance to draft PLD would that have been so much better then OJ? Or when they took JV instead of taking someone further down would that have hurt this team? Look at best forward prospect BB taken in 20's. it's all about quality of player and not so much position (unless there is a clear superstar generational player) which this draft shows options are there ⎌no matter the position.

So really more concerned about development of younger and next core players now. Having them try for the wins then WD using periphery guys are fading vets more.

I would think Landeskog Keller Barzal and Jost could see action next year for the Canucks

Sekeres said the Giants and Comets might both plan to build an arena in Surrey

what bothers me is how Bo gets 3rd line role most of the season yet new comer megna gets gifted 1st line duty with the twins yet produces nothing.

Yes. All true and probably for the best. Most Western teams have moved their AHL clubs out West.

Horvat was a player that could develop 4th line, Boeser likely will need to switch between 3rd and 4th line. I see Virtanen having a wake up call and coming into camp next season wanting to stay. I am also tired of seeing our 4th line playing solid minutes in the last 5 minutes of a game when we are down by a goal. I saw them get 2 shifts in the last 5 mins(1 being at around 2m30s) of that game. WD is probably the only coach in the league, possibly history of, that makes that call. 3 players with a combined 4 goals on the season are no going to tie the game for you.

Agreed. Lets face it, there are a LOT of good options that have YET to be tried. We can only pray these are tried out.

You know Bo and Megna play different positions right? Cant really compare their roles (not to mention he is only behind Sutter, Sedins and Eriksson in forward icetime per game).

I would understand the beef if Willie took Sven away from Bo to play with the twins, weakening Bo's line, but putting Megna there was a benefit to him instead keeping a hot line together

Where are we getting the other 1st from? Benning has said he isn't trading. But he also said he wants more picks. I guess he will get them the old fashioned way?

I've heard that Pop could slip as some scouts are not high on his skating and that he doesn't use his size to his advantage enough.
