They do right now. For most of last year they did not, even though Cousins is a year older.
Things change quickly. - Feanor
I wrote a lot more than that first sentence. Again, Cousins's development has been linear. OHL time....2.5 years in the AHL....called up midway....NHL player in his first full season, though at times a scratch. That's not irregular. Laughton's journey has been highly irregular. Last year they made the decision that he was NHL ready, and was a superior "prospect" anyway, and he played all year in the NHL. Now he's in the AHL for the year. They are two very different scenarios.
The things change quickly sentiment applies to Laughton, just not in the way you mean. |

Two things are concerning ...
1) Coach feels AMac is still one of their best 6 defensemen.
2) Flyers want AMac to play in 40 games so he can be exposed in expansion draft. Which is all fine and good except that means they want to use a protection slot on Brandon Manning. To think of Manning that highly troubles me as well, considering he's a 3rd pair defenseman. Only way I'd be OK with this is they want to work out a short-term fair deal with MDZ before draft and then protect him. - SeaIslelandLush
well with Streit out he really still is. you think Schultz is better? |

They both suck pretty equally. The good thing about Schultz is that he'd actually be used in a role fitting his level of play as the #6 d man, not attached to the hip seeing top pair shutdown minutes with our best young d man. |

It has to be based on games played? It is clear right now that Cousins is the odd man out and is missing out on playing time because of preferences to other players. Even when he is playing it is being bounced around a lot. Yeah he played in more games than Jordan Weal, but the Flyers were also playing very well last year and there wasn't much of a reason to experiment with Weal. It has been recently (i.e. coots/read being healthy) but since then it has been obvious. He hasn't played in 2017 yet.
Fun fact he played in all 10 games of the win streak - YuenglingJagr
If I understand you correctly, you're saying Cousins should replace Couturier as 2C. I agree. |

He's trending that way, yes. But he deserves his time this season and next to prove otherwise. Though bust is a strong word. He has shown some latent abilities scoring at the NHL level when moved to wing. Maybe he has a path to being an NHL regular, but it's not this one IMO. It's not just about Laughton. It's about Cousins; about Leier. Decisions have to be made in the near distant future. |

Schultz was our shutdown guy and main PKer for 81 games last season. Everything was peaches and cream in these threads, and the PK was ranked in the top 20. |

Nah, I just disagree that playing 34 games in half a season is similar to playing 10. |

She asked me to pick my poison, not skip merrily at the thought of one or the other. I can't honestly remember, but I feeeeeeel like I was effusive and consistent in my criticizing of Schultz all last season and this season. I want neither. I'd rather have, and have said this since preseason: 9-3 / 15-53 / 23-32. But if I had to pick my poison, give me the one that hurts less. |

who the (frank) cares how many games he's played to date. Would he be in 34 games if they didn't have all the injures to their forwards? Gordon, Raffl, Read, Couturier all missing significant time. He is the 13/14th forward right now whether he played 34 or 10 games |

Are you talking about the Niskanen one? From 2 years ago? I don't think that's the underlying cause of everything bad in his career. His stats have been pretty consistent since then, and he recovered fine. If you're talking about the postseason one, he still had 100+ games in to evaluate all his issues manifesting themselves, and he's doing fine in the AHL this year too. Not saying it hasn't had any effect long-term, because I simply don't know, but it's not like he was a stud in the making and then it's been night and day since. He was always a bit low ceiling. He could just be what he is because that's what he is. It happens. Inability to play defense and read the play at an NHL level seems unrelated to me, and physically he still moves the same. I see the Phantoms regularly. I don't notice anything different.
Do you think Philippe Myers is a bust now too because of his 2 concussions in 2 months, as you ridiculed someone over? If he busts, can we point to that? |

Because playing in most of the games is a lot different to sitting in the press box like Weal did 83% of the time. You think LA and the Flyers didn't have injuries last season? |
