Dunno.
Ultimately, the end result is the same, whether he's truly "hurt" or "injured" or whatever.
Maybe he's banged up, healthy enough to play, but not healthy enough to be effective, I don't know. - johndewar
I dunno. I think Hakstol is just using his healthy scratch as a tool again. Said Gudas needs to be more consistent. |

And Laughton doesn't get PP time why???? Because Andy miele is better? HMMMM
Brilliant retort and player analysis my friend.
Laughton can't beat out a scrub! Bring him up now with his scary talent that cannot get him PP mins. - Konalover
Contrary to popular belief, coaching decisions and player usage is different in the AHL for developing players, than it would be in the NHL. Coaches will sometimes place a player in situations that help him develop the skills he needs to improve to be a better NHL player. For example, if a defenseman is a very talented offensive defenseman, they will frequently keep him off of the PP, and play him in defensive situations, to get that player to concentrate on those areas of his game. It's not always about who is the better player. |

My view was that he would be given another chance at center essentially (hence why he's playing there) and if that doesnt work out again next year would be a chance to let him play wing. Developmentally, I think that is probably the way to go, but it certainly condenses the time frame in which he would have to begin showing results at wing. Anyway, I see myself as more optimistic than you, for sure. I want him here now. Not in a oh my god we would be so much better way, but in a I highly doubt the team would be much worse way. - YuenglingJagr
If I understand you correctly, you're saying Laughton should come up and replace Couturier as 2C. I agree. |

Well he kind of has to be on the team next year due to waivers. If he doesn't make it out of camp, then it's the AHL for the season. That's not good. If he does make it due to waivers reasons and they see much of the same throughout camp and the beginning of the season.....reality sets in. You don't want him in a Jordan Weal situation where he sits all year in the press box of the NHL team. Then it might be best to just decide that if he develops into anything, it might just have to be elsewhere and try to get some value out of him. - Mononoke
I don't think the Flyers would do that. They're not doing it with Cousins. |

I think they view Cousins as more of an NHL player than Laughton. To my viewing, Cousins actually thinks the game at an NHL pace. Laughton never has. That's a big issue. Plus, Cousins is the only one waiver eligible. They have some wiggle room right now. And Cousins isn't even a regular either, missing a bunch of their games. He very well could be gone himself by 2018, if he's not taken in the draft.
Laughton has over 100 games in the NHL. They did a lot of work and demoted a super reliable, wild and crazy defenseman to get him a spot out of training camp. They thought he was ready. He played a full season. Now he's in the AHL for the year likely. Nothing has gone according to plan with Laughton, and they can be patient all they want. And that's good; there's no need to be hasty today. I said in 2018 a final decision becomes more likely. Also, come next year, Leier needs a spot too due to waivers. Is Cousins still here? So, if all 3 are on the team, there are only so many spots. Decisions can't go on indefinitely when prospects reach this age. Given they're basically throwing the kitchen sink at Laughton at this juncture, and have already erred once in his evaluating as an NHL player, I don't think they're not concerned. |

I would say Ghost is projected as the worst balanced prospect coming up through the pipeline, although after a solid start, Brandon Manning has returned to crap. I wouldn't trade Ghost until we absolutely need to and this should be after the current crop of kids enter the league.
I personally would have trade Streit last summer. I'm disappointed that we've played things out with him for this long. Too long. - SuperSchennBros
A healthy Streit would have more value at the deadline than last summer in my opinion because most of his salary/cap hit would have been paid/used against the cap |

It has to be based on games played? It is clear right now that Cousins is the odd man out and is missing out on playing time because of preferences to other players. Even when he is playing it is being bounced around a lot. Yeah he played in more games than Jordan Weal, but the Flyers were also playing very well last year and there wasn't much of a reason to experiment with Weal. It has been recently (i.e. coots/read being healthy) but since then it has been obvious. He hasn't played in 2017 yet.
Fun fact he played in all 10 games of the win streak |
