I expect a draft day trade for JVR. Actually I expect the Leafs to be doing a lot of shuffling on draft day in general.
- mykokes

I am surprised there isn't in-depth analysis and articles on this yet from media. Most likely b/c its still a ways away and subject to change, regardless there should be some decent players available, many with big cap hits but still.

Still a big if but if JVR is traded it definitely is shaping up to be possible at the expansion draft.

Carolina for different reasons.

I still think Calgary is the ticket.

They're making a push for a wildcard spot, not sure we want to trade with them if we are planning on making the playoffs.

Knowing our luck we'd get Wideman or Jokikapapapapakia

I'm thinking more like bozak for rasmus anderson.

Well they need to take someone from the Leafs. Who else would they take? (not trying to be contrarian)
- TheMussel

Ugh ya true.

They could take Kerby Rychel.

Calgary will be making a push and will not be moving Hamilton...he's been playing great this year.

Lou has said its still a long term plan regardless of where we are in the standings....so if Calgary is pushing for a wildcard spot, I'm sure dangling Bozak, or Komarov could land us futures. And by futures, I mean the huge depth Calgary has on its prospect blueline.

I doubt the leafs will trade depth for futures this year. Ownership and management are interested in the making the playoffs.

I hear the Jays runs have gotten Rogers hot and heavy for a leafs post season.

WHo says its Hamilton we should be after?

Brett Kulak
Tyler Wotherspoon
Kenney Morrison
Oliver Kylington
Rasmus Andersson

They have prospect depth at d, and are shallow up front in their minor league system.

Lou just said this week regardless of the playoffs the plan does not change. So the question we have all been asking is JVR part of the long term team? Heck if I know but given age and future contract cap value I will assume a trade is very possible.

Balls.

He'd be a good piece to leave available as I dont see him in the leafs future plans.

Meh, he's said a lot of things.
The plan is to become a playoff team consistently and win....there are no specifics as to when.

Again, if the leafs are within striking distance of a playoff spot...I dont see them dumping depth for futures.
It would be for something that helps out now and into the future.

To Toronto
Bieksa
Montour
Theodore

To Anaheim
JVR (2.1M retained)
Leipsic
San Jose 2017 2nd round pick

- optimus-reim

so Leafs give up a proven top LW on a great deal for prospects AND a seriously crappy CAP dump.... I think you are undervaluing JvR AND none of this gets a top 4 defenseman yet... .and its better to take a guy like Stoner as a CAP dump rather than retaining salary on JvR.... no way Uncle Lou does anything like that. He'll be looking for a top 4 d-man in return for JvR - otherwise why move him.

Lou wants sustainability. Doesn't sound like a guy when I've heard him this week on the radio even close to going all in for the playoffs.

They may want to trade Doughty to the Leafs for Rychel - which may seem lopsided, but Doughty needs to be protected, and Rychel doesn't.

And it gives LA more cap space - which is something really great for any team.

If negotiations get nasty, we could always flip the pick we acquired in the Enroth trade.

its not dumping depth, its making room for Kappanen and others. I mean we've already seen turnover, and each and every time a young player makes the jump, the team doesn't lose a step, it actually gains one. It's an easy sell to make to any board.

Or...

you may see more harrington for rychel type deals, but with d being the focus.

The two prospects are solid, they'd be our top 2 d prospects the second the come through the door. That said, Anaheim won't move both, as stated, neither are at risk of being lost in the expansion draft.
