Ya I took a quick look....I'm not sure who there fav's are in the forward position. Looks like they only need to protect Doughty/Martinez/Muzzin/Toffoli/Quick

After that I'm not really sure.

They may want to trade Doughty to the Leafs for Rychel - which may seem lopsided, but Doughty needs to be protected, and Rychel doesn't.

And it gives LA more cap space - which is something really great for any team.

If negotiations get nasty, we could always flip the pick we acquired in the Enroth trade.

According to draft tool, he needs to play 30 or so more games to be eligible for draft. I may be wrong as I don't have all info on requirements on hand at the moment

This is actually why I think he's in the AHL right now.

Just to be clear, they get exposed if they're eligible regardless of whether Minn likes it or not
- TheMussel

Sure and the most a team can protect is 4D meaning they would also protect 4 forwards. Many teams will want to protect more than 4 forwards bumping them into the protect 7 forwards and 3D category.

Taking a closer look at the exp tool there should definitely be some movement among teams - Leafs are in a good spot this time around.

Yeah, not too many tough decisions on who to protect because most of the good players are ineligible

This is exactly why I don't want the Leafs to make any moves. Wait for teams to get desperate.

I just noticed a pretty big problem. We need the leave players with a minimum number of games played exposed. We're covered on D, but we don't have any forwards that we wouldn't want protect available, we need 2. The closest I can see is if both Smith an Froes but each need 12 more games.

Garth is calling O'Reilly the moral compass of the Buffalo Sabres.

I guess in relative terms, drink-driving a car through a Tim Horton's storefront isn't as bad as choking and attempting to abduct random girls in a night club

Getting something for JVR now is better asset management than risking trading him for less next season or losing him to FA, or even signing him to a fair contract.

Comparables point to JVR making between 6 - 7.25 mil on the open market. Those aren't unfair numbers, but I'm not sure I would want this team investing that much cap space in him. I think if you can get a quality top four defenceman on a reasonable contract you should pull the trigger.

This could be mitigated by taking back an eligible cap dump player in a trade

I'm not sure if he qualifies, but I'm sure they can convince Lupul to waive his NMC.
There will be a few "roster shuffling" moves to position the Leafs for the expansion draft as well.

My guess is Marincin will be who the Leafs hope gets claimed. Smith will be exposed too.

I'd give myself 3 years if I had a million dollars.

If I had more than a million, I'd hire a private doctor and tell him all the stuff I was planning on doing to myself so that he can come up with an action plan to keep me at maximum health
