So the argument is.... Phil Kessel... good player or not?

Hmmm...

What? You disagree with me on marner? You think he's awful defensively?

Has anyone actually done this? I find it hilarious that you can't win with kessel proven to be true, kessel didn't help pens win cause Crosby and malkin but it was all his fault in Toronto? Maybe it's a team sport?

No, I said let's give him a season before judging his D.

And again if you'd read what I posted....people seem to blame everyone but Kessel.

Kessel was just as much to blame as anyone else on the Leafs...just like you said "team" but some on here look at his PPG and then bow....but overlook the fact his line got lit up his last year here and throw the blame on anyone but him.

Asked him to play centre-no
Asked him to try a different breakout play-no
Work harder in summer-no
Turn the puck over and fake trying to get back-yes
Put head down on bench to fake exhaustion-yes

Very talented but I don't miss him at all.

Yeah I mean that's all true allegedly... and he's an exceptional talent but it wasn't the right time for a Kessel on our team... For the Pens, the timing couldn't have been better...

Sure he's good, best release in hockey IMO, just funny everyone else was to blame for the Leafs losing except him....he scored and I guess defense and being on the ice while the other team filled the net doesn't matter if you score.

Perfect timing for the Pens. So much leadership in the dressing room Phil would never get away with floating. He's such a likeable guy I still love when he does well.

What you welping about....just like you said above, sometimes a minus is not earned but just bad luck on a line change etc. Same as an assist....fall down and have the puck bounce off your bucket and a teammate fires it in the net...same difference.

In my opinion, he was the Conn Smythe winner...

And a team to eat 25% of his salary.

It was a gift that just keeps giving.

We sort of got fleeced on that one... we're paying him a boatload of cash to play against us...

Addition by subtraction and hey, MATTHEWS!!!!

Hopefully the Pens pay us back when it's our turn to go for it and they start a rebuild.

Im talking about specifically these 39 games, not what he will become. He (marner) has been good defensively. I suspect will get even better. I'm not talking about what he will become but what he currently is. Imo he's clearly the best defensively on his line by a lot. But the stats don't say that. That's what I'm getting at.

Kessel is a ppg but people say he doesn't make team better? That's loonie tunes. No one on here saying he's a complete player, a defensive stalwart. But he lead his team in goals and points in the playoffs but somehow didn't have impact on them winning. At the same time it's all his fault the leafs sucked while he was here. Can't have it both ways.

I don't mind the couple pieces we got back.....but man, giving them our best winger and paying 25% is hard to swallow....especially the Pens.

How many cups have they won since we won one?

He's been fine ( Marner )

Nobody said Kessel didn't have ANY impact on the Pens winning and nobody said it's ALL his fault. If they did....send me the link, I'll straighten them out for ya

He's in a totally different situation in Pitts, apples and oranges

I said plus minus can get you a mark even if you weren't involved, he told me false then said it can happen.....

And yeah getting hit with puck means you were involved in the play.
