Similar to will the Oilers miss Hall.. I figured they would but they seem to be far better.

Like the Leafs without Phil.

Exactly this!^

I'm a pseudo fan of JVR but our D really needs help and that help will get us and keep us in the playoffs.

We can replace JVR's 14g in 39 games but more importantly we can also save 14GA in 39 games too....with the right D man. That should equal more wins and addition by subtraction.

I don't think you would notice a big difference up front with this line up: (in fact, might see an improvement in a few areas other than scoring.)

Sosh, Kadri, Koma
Hyman, Matthews, Brown
Nylander, Bozak, Marner
Rychel, Goat, Martin

Rielly, NEW GUY
Gardiner, Orlov
Carrick, Zaitsev

(Isn't Orlov an UFA? If so, he's a good, hard hitting #4 we could pick up.)

I don't think they would miss him. Not drastically at least.

They won't miss their second top scorer?

oh yes..not suggesting it will be drastic.

But for a top 4 D.....do it.
Its what the leafs need

Players we aren't getting...

Fowler
Lindholm
Hamilton
Shattenkirk
Dumba
Trouba

I seriously doubt any are available and if St. Louis does trade Shattenkirk, I don't see where is contract demands will fit with the plan and time frames in Toronto... even if he does agree to re-sign.

If we are looking in the off-season, which prospects are out there that you might get for JVR, (assuming you also have to take back a salary dump)

Whoa.
Sosh not a top line guy. Zaitsev on the 3rd line would be waste...he plays well with Rielly.
If this is next years prediction.....you may see Matthews on the top line.
Kari, sosh and koma is still around....are a great 3rd line.

Few questions guys:

Andrew Nielsen, why not talk about this guy? Seems to be really growing into something. Possible 2nd pairing core guy? Like the Blackhawks Hamrasllson (however you spell it)

Dermott?

Kerby? Seems to have picked up his pace after a really slow start. Could he be a Komorov replacement if we trade him?

Long term, no. Maybe not even short term. Kapanen could be ready to take his spot. Even if he doesn't produce at the clip JVR does, I think the Leafs would be a more balanced team with Kapanen and another top 4 defenceman.

So we have a deal, Emelin (25% salary retained) + 2nd for JVR and the 7th round pick from Anaheim (I hear that pick will be a star)

Kadri 2-3
Matthews #1
Nylander, marner line 2 (or one with matthews)

Rychel line 3, it's sosh's spot.

Gards/Zaitsev 2nd pairing

3rd Nielsen and maybe dermott in a year or 2

IMO I dont see Nielsen or Dermott getting full time mins on the leafs next year.
Kerby I see as an AHL'er....with some spot play with the leafs once in a while.

Yeah I think none are moved until the off-season.
Funny enough, Trouba may be the most likely to move if the Jets don't challenge, and you can't like their chances in any game Laine misses.

If they can get a good Dman for JVR then yeah but to say they won't miss a 30 goal scorer and their 2nd leading scorer is pretty silly imo.

Better as a team in the standings is all the GM really friggin cares about. If you ask me. We will never know how good or bad they would have been without making the trade...
- bixll

That's true. I just don't think a Larsson put them over any hump. McDavid has the team on his back this season and besides October they have been pretty unspectacular. Nurse going down hurt but he's still got a lot of developing to do like most young D. I just don't think the Hall trade was beneficial for them considering they gave up a top line player for a D that's 4th in ATOI on the Edmonton blue line.

Ya that team just cant put it together.
Trouba has been playing pretty darn good as well.
