As nice as it is to beat the Rangers and give the Blackhawks a run...it's the games against teams like Tampa and Carolina that will show where we're at. I don't know if it's just me, but I feel like we never beat the Canes. We gotta show up for that one cause those are the teams that are at our level and who will bring it against us. I feel the big teams often have a tough time getting up for games against the lowly sabres and we are able to catch them sleeping a bit.

I love the new lines. Love Reino between the speed and physicality of Kane and Bailey. Love ROR and Okposo together with Carriers forechecking tenacity. Allows those other two hang back and pick off passes through the neutral zone. I think Ennis needs to go with Jack and Marcus. Gionta down with Girgensons and whoever.

I still feel Bylsma needs to give Jack some pk time. His speed is a game-breaker and teams are susceptible to breakawas while on the pp. I have season tickets to the oilers and have witnessed how McClellan utilizes McDavid on the pk. These are elite players who read the play at another level. It's not a stretch to think Jack can do it in a defensive role with a chance to break the game open with a shorty. The high guy isn't blocking shots, he's usually just trying to take away the cross-ice lanes.

Thoughts?

he looked good in preseason doing it last year.
that said, he is not the best 1;1 breakaway player...but I'm sure he could develop it.
something to consider down the road when his foot is fully healed up.

you need them right now too, schaller wasnt given much of a shot. good bargain signing for the bruins

This franchise needs to do better in that area imo

- Sabresfan-365

you can't plug the carriers, faschings, baileys etc on the 4th line

that is not the game they have played their entire lives

honestly COR would be a perfect 4th liner

I'm confused...are you saying that Rhino actually does something good out on the ice. clearly you watch the game with boith eyes closed...he's a bust and unworthy of prasie until he beat The Great One's records.

No Jack on the pk this year. The pk is pretty taxing on the ankles and he has a bad one. otherwise, yeah he'd be on it with kane.

Doesn't it suggest they feel more comfortable playing in front of Lehner, and they generate more offense? That when Nilsson is playing they're cutting out of the O-zone early and getting back to help him?
- Der Kaiser

Yes that is exactly what it suggests. You saw this all the time when Hasek and Miller were in the pipes.

I wouldn't necessarily agree with this of course, however I did read a quote from one of the sabres players saying that they basically have "gotten away from X's and O's" and just started playing hockey. This may have been a said in regards to the philly game but i am not sure.

Over coaching in the NHL is a problem at near epidemic levels at this point.

I just don't get why people can't just enjoy when they win a game. Those of us that show optimism aren't planning any Stanley Cup parades. We're just enjoying when we get a W.

I'm always all over reinhart, but he has been playing very well lately. he actually holds on to the puck and does stuff with it now. he went through a period where he treated the puck like a live grenade. if this is the real sam, awesome. I hope (and actually think) it is. I feel his #2 slot and being compared with jack is a hinderence, but he didn't do squat when jack was out to stand out for himself. im cool with him running shotgun to jack, and if he is too, then we have a dynamic duo.
- Khmylev

That seems to have been something I remember reading about Bylsma. His "system" is one that doesn't want any player holding onto the puck for the most part.

I could be wrong, but I feel like I remember reading that somewhere.

It's all about quick passes/transition from the D-zone to the O-zone. Problem is our passing has been atrocious for most of the season.

That seemed to be especially true for the wingers.

I am in the keep Reinhart at center from now forward camp, with some double shifts of him playing wing for Jack.

He's played very well since being moved to C and having a triple threat, and even quad threat if you include Girgensons, at C is a long term plan for success.

I was at the game last night ...

1. Fedun is the 3rd best Dman on the roster, great skater and makes smart plays w the puck. low shot off the pad created carrier's goal
2. Bogosian is ATROCIOUS, a total liability in every way
3. Gorges should never play another game, under ANY circumstances
4. Sam Reinhart was skating really well, played the best game i've seen from him as a sabre
5. Team speed is much closer to an acceptable level with larsson, gorges, grant OUT and bailey, carrier, fedun IN
6. Nilsson played really well, Lehner is trash

ALSO i agree with previous posters that Sam looks great at center, the speed he had on the wings with Kane / Bailey and i like being able to roll out three lines with 90 / 15 / 23 in the middle

i hate to bring it back up... but why can't people just accept that we have two good goalies.. Just because Nilsson has been playing well does not mean that Lehner is trash. they are one of the best goalie tandems in the nhl in regards to save % and GAA... just accept that they are both good

Nilsson also has a track record of doing really well for stints and then falling apart. That's not to say it'll happen here, but it's happened in the past.

That said, at this point with two goalies playing well, ride whichever one seems to be the hot hand at the moment.

nice option to have regardless. I would ride the hot hand though. confidence boost for him and the team and maybe lights a fire under lehner, who hasn't been bad but maybe you want a little better from him.
