[quote=Der Kaiser]There was a whole conversation over the weekend about how we should worry that we would lose Peterson and not be able to sign him to an ELC.

The thinking was that Murray is committed to Lehner as the #1, and will never change his mind, because Murray never changes his mind about the players he drafts. Therefore, because Murray would never really give Peterson a chance, he would go Vessey and sign someplace else as a FA.

The grant episode today tends to disprove the thought that Murray never changes his mind about the players he i

Thornton is a pure play maker, 2 goals this year.

We already have the assist guys if you're going to spend 6 mil or more spend it on someone that can score....and isn't quite as old.

Yeah that's the conundrum. You would have to give the years to get him. I still think I would. You could throw looks with Eichel on his wing
- jcragcrumple

I don't think Eichel is a pure sniper though...

Eichel needs that sniper on his wing

certainly a better target although you wonder if the team that signs him ends up with semin 2.0
- Sabresfan-365

He has been really good with the Montreal Canadiens he's going to cash big time
The question is when he gets the big contract does he go invisible

I love Joe Thornton but overall it doesn't make much sense for us or for him.

I'll say it. Eichel with Foligno and Gionta is disgusting. What the flying (frank)? I hate Bylsma, so very much.

To get back at Murray for sending Grant down??

God I hope GMTM fires that idiot

He's historically been a pass first guy, has had to shoot a lot more because of our lack of snipers. I dont mind the extra shooting since he's got a great shot but saw on twitter that hes something like 3rd in the league in shots per game which is way too high for a playmaker.

to be fair the number of shots stat really means nothing if they are all crap shots into the goalies bread basket. a bust like Jakey Boy can easily fire the puck at the net every chance they get.

Which I would agree, so why throw money at a 38 year old Joe Thorton?

I'd rather throw money at the blue line...

Somehow get rid of 2 of Moulson (least of the issues at the moment) Bogosian and Gorges and get Shattenkirk...

thought calgary drafted grant, my b. I still dont think its quite the same thing though. Lehner was brought here at a high price with high-ish expectations. Feel like they had Grant slotted in the COR role before he had a good pre season but hopefully you are right.
